Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

i try not too much concern myself with other peoples relationships
Why comment?
Why not? OP asked what people think. The response is valid.
It's a non answer that just serves to pat themselves on the back for being "good". The question is also about the concept of open relationships. You can talk about that concept without viewing it through the lense of other people's business. It's a frustrating thing I see regularly in comments on posts like this. The idea you have to comment just to let everyone know you don't have an opinion because you're too moral.
Did you just comment to whine about someone else's comment to show off how much better you are by (incorrectly) saying their view wasn't meaningful enough?
No, no OP has a point. That poster's comment was inane, and you are only looking stupid by defending that as a good post
The issue is people not having a stake in something and still believing they are entitled to speak
Choosing not to be judgemental of others is an active choice.
Telling everyone how non judgemental and good you are is too.
Their view added nothing. It served only to show that they don't have an opinion. So again, why comment if you're not willing to have an opinion. Its just moral posturing, its annoying and cringy.
what's your thought on homosexual relationship?
I would place them in the same category as monogamous heterosexual relationships. I think creating a delineation between heterosexual relationships and homosexual ones like your doing is a strange way to make a point. I also lived with a lesbian couple for a few years when I was younger. In my personal anecdotal experience, I like hanging out with lesbian couples more than gay male couples, but about as much as heterosexual couples. Granted, that's my personal lived experience. I wouldn't assume I'd get along better with either on average though. Mostly just the people I knew. Weird to create that divide considering an open relationship is in no way equivalent to a gay one. In fact, some open relationships are gay.
I'm with you on this one, Chippy. But you kinda have to let people be useless, as long as they're harmless at least. We just gotta tolerate it (even if the obvious "virtue signalling " is annoying) and move on without losing our temper. 🥲
