Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

I’m too old to even understand what half of this means.

Remember Molly Ringwald's stalker? Well in this case this person had an AI using this person's faked voice pretend they were in a relationship. He wanted to tell her to break up with her partner and delete photos of herself so he could be the only one to see her. The AI told him to tell her this directly, and he did. Dude needs help.

Half? I didn't understand any of it. The words mostly made sense but their usage did not.

That's a pretty succinct description of AI. We are required to use Copilot at work (not kidding) and I always have to remind myself that AI use language the way demons do in Frieren - they don't have intent or intelligence really but use it in an approximation of language. It never really means anything.

You're not alone. I'm 60, I try to keep up, if only for entertainment's sake, but stuff like this just goes right past me.

Alright, 40s here, I'll try. I assume OP is some kind of social media figure with a following. "Ship" means having a parasocial or imaginary relationship with a public figure, like a kpop star. I think fandoms often "ship" imaginary charactors together, like 2 charactors who are not in love in the original material of an anime.

So she's saying break up with your girlfriend because I imagine us together. Take down your photos because I'm jealous your other fans will look.

Then she's talking about a parasocial relationship she has with an ai chatbot she has trained upon OP's likeness and data. She's saying her chatbot version of OP told her to go ahead and contact OP with these psycho demands.

How did I do?
