Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

lol Iโm guilty of passing people slowly mainly because of cruise control though ๐ but then I slide over in the โslowโ lane and maintain cruise control no randomly peeling off but I definitely incur some road rage from the people doing 30 over the limit when I pull out to pass someone for the next 45 seconds ๐ but fuck them lol in a rush for nothing
If you're overtaking, you're supposed to speed up. If speeding up would put you at an unsafe speed, then overtaking is too dangerous at that moment. If there isn't enough difference in speed to overtake in a timely manner, there isn't enough difference in speed you should want to overtake.
Just because cruise control makes you drive a constant speed doesn't mean it makes you drive the correct speed. Either adjust it down and accept your place in traffic, or turn it off long enough to speed up and complete your overtake without turning your two-ton death machine into an obstacle for everyone else to maneuver around.
First of all, you don't know that. They could be having an emergency. If it was your relative dying at the hospital, you'd want people to move out of your way too. Second of all, it's not your job to police the roads. It's not your job to make sure people drive slow enough. If you think someone is being dangerous by driving too fast, the safest thing you can do is get the fuck out of their way. Adding another car to an already dangerous situation only makes the situation more dangerous.
Call and report them if tou have to, but don't try to enforce the law, that's not your job.
Go off king but I think Iโll keep doing me ๐ for context the only traffic Iโm impeding on multi lane highway is that traveling in excess of 20 over limit cause thatโs typically what cruise is set to. If you have your caution lights flashing and speeding I yield to you otherwise youโll be fine to fly by me at unsafe speeds once I get back in my lane ๐
And how you drive is fine, I'm just confused why someone would be driving like 90mph and then slow down to 65.1mph to pass someone going 65mph. I'm just baffled every time I see it. Just... WHY??
