I won't deny that I laughed my ass off when I saw Borat. I loved how it skewered conservatives.
But still, picking a real country was a mistake. And lying about a documentary on poverty to a poor village is incredibly scummy, no way to sugarcoat it
Yeah I thought of that when I said it. The set up is overtly racist, and it walks a line where I COULD try to argue that it's establishing Borat as a character, but it does definitely seem to lean more on shock value while character building as a fringe benefit.
