Battlefield 6 unexpectedly removed fan-favorite game modes, such as King of the Hill, Squad Deathmatch, and Rush. This sparked anger in the community because players could no longer access modes that they'd consistently returned to in the history of the franchise. ExplorEverythingOnce, a particularly disgruntled fan, decided they’d had enough and took it up with Steam support to ask for a refund.
In the refund request, they pointed out that several modes shown as available on the Battlefield website were no longer listed on the Community Broadcast page and had been removed without notice. Despite having played Battlefield 6 for over 470 hours since launch day, the support agent agreed that it “wasn’t right” and refunded the game in its entirety, amounting to the $109.24 that they paid on launch day for Battlefield 6 Phantom Edition. ExplorEverythingOnce added a screenshot of their Steam purchase history as proof of the refund. “Battlefield Studios, you don’t get to remove the games I play and still keep my money,” the unhappy customer said triumphantly at the end of their post.
Because these claims rely on hearsay and a screenshot, there is no way to confirm how true they are. It is strange that Steam would grant this refund request, considering that Battlefield Studios made a statement about the recently vaulted game modes. Some game modes are more popular than others, which leads to inactive servers. To combat this, the devs temporarily removed game modes and put them on a weekly rotation. This decision was made to incentivize players to try different modes and increase active players to prevent dead servers.
The refund was a permanent solution to a temporary situation, and it might have just led to something much bigger. Considering that the post got a lot of impressions within a few days, other displeased players might just flood Steam support with similar refund requests — whether to return Battlefield 6 or any other game.

Polygon has always been a shitty publication but holy shit. Fuck every person involved in writing this bullshit.
I remember when Polygon launched and it was being presented as the serious new site. And then it started operation and it's just another Kotaku with slightly longer articles.
it was good for the first year or so then just kinda disappeared. It reminded me of EDGE magazine during that time which back in the day was a pretty serious mature magazine for decent videogame journalism. No idea if that mag still exists or if it's still like that today though.
Kotaku and RPS are the only good game news sites imo.
https://aftermath.site/ is pretty cool too afaict, I discovered it by this article https://aftermath.site/war-crime-n64-palmer-luckey-m64-modretro/ and I love the energy
Rock Paper Shotgun is legit the best PC gaming news site. I know of
100% rps is great (unless there is any mention of Ukraine or Russia)
I mean they are (I assume) well meaning progressive libs with everything that comes with that. Which still makes them much better than Capital G gamers mind you.
Oh yeah for sure, and it isn't so much them as some of their reader base. I get they are trying to walk a difficult line, it's just funny every time it comes up and the frothing gamers still get mad they aren't 100% Slava Ukraini fash.
Is RPS the one with the Witcher Gerald bathtub on every article related to Witcher? It was very funny.
PC Gamer did that too iirc. RPS does have long running gags like that though so probably them too.
PCG is alright most times but they are cowards and disable comments on any article remotely controversial politics wise.
It was sold to valnet a year ago and has gotten much worse imo
The only interaction I ever had with Polygon is BDG's Unraveled videos. Honestly forgot they were supposed to be an actual news site.
The entire staff got fired and replaced with contractors/AI recently IIRC
Lmao that explains a lot
We need ethics in games journalism!
Saw this yesterday lol
Tye bad politics is one thing.
If there's no Zombinis she's fucking cancelled.
Edit: There is Zoombinis, fuck. Their story comes off as zionist as fuck though. Maybe that's where she got the liberal zionist brainworms.
Oh I didn't actually watch it, wasn't gonna subject myself to how vidja taught her hanging out with Hilldawg was based
