I mean it isn't very active, but it seems to me that c/finance is mostly for news about financial markets, and not evangelizing the stock market or anything like that.

Iirc it started as a response to the wallstreetbets subreddit when that was first getting big, and my read was that it was less ironic than not. Then later it got sort of readjusted to the more reasonable comm it is now. But that's also my vibes based recollection from years ago so maybe I'm kind of exaggerating how silly it was in my head

Now that you mention it I do remember that, and I may have actually been on the "let's try and radicalize these guys" side at the time, which does seem silly in hindsight.
