I still find it baffling that people ever thought he would lower the price of anything other than corruption. Like, what in his first disaster of a term gave anyone the idea that he could drive prices down? He absolutely tanked the economy during covid and the before that it was only good on paper.
It takes a lot to get through to people. I don't know how you raise kids and make ends meet on $9 an hour and also pay attention to politics. There are so many layers of systemic failure here that to blame each and every individual is only recognizing half the problem.
I mean yeah we're a wealthy nation and we're lazy, ignorant, and complacent but we're also overworked, underpaid, and victimized
It takes a lot to get through to people because most people have the attention span of a goldfish struggling for breath in a puddle on the floor next to the broken glass of their tiny fish tank.
They see the propaganda, they don't have the time to dig any deeper than "Democrats are baby killers and Trump will create jobs". The message was a lie, but short enough to get across.
Democrats have terrible messaging, and aren't even trying to hit some of these demographics. I've yet to see a good Spanish language mass media campaign. Some from NGOs, but none from the party.
Texas would be blue if they could competently get out the Latino vote... Instead the white rural voters get to enact their terrible policies :_(
I knew the propaganda was working at least for their base when I saw them repeating along with Pence - "promises made, promises kept" and they even had a banner for it, LOL.
To someone like me, it was like watching W stand in front of "Mission Accomplished" in the level of ridiculousness and brazen idiociy, but to the brainless monkeys in that crowd? Absolute truth.
What promises were made and what were kept? I have no fucking idea what one of the base would have said in 2020 to that question.
The fact of the matter is, prices went up under Biden's watch, and they were getting the wrong message from Democrats at the time, which was "hey, it's all OK, trust us!". And in a system where we only get two choices, that meant either sitting it out, or voting for the other ~~guy~~ one.
What the Democrats did not point out enough was that we were coming out of a Black Swan global event AND Russia attacked Ukraine. They don't have to get into the details and working to bring relief would be welcome for sure, but it's not like Biden caused either Covid or Russia's aggression...
When Biden left, virtually everything about the economy was headed in the right direction. Donvict was handed an economy that was called the envy of the world and still the big baby whines about it and proceeds to fuck it all up.
I bet anything that if a Democrat gets in there, the Murc's Law types will be immediately blaming the Democrats for not fixing things fast enough.
The economists agreed the economy was headed in the right direction as a whole, but those are the bottom weren't seeing it. They vote, too, and will abandon candidates they think aren't listening.
It's rather telling that amid all this controversy over the "DNC Autopsy", the key point which the DNC seems to be ignoring is the fact that the political consultants that ran it were all well off, and didn't see the same day-to-day pain that most people did. There is a reason why the term K-shaped economy is so popular.
And yes, Trump won and he has made things so much worse. But was hard in 2024 to vote for "more of the same" when your situation has gotten worse.
Id go even farther than that. Biden started a lot of good things, not just the better economy, but way too much was longer term and no one has an attention span anymore. Too many voters can’t look at a chart and see “lines goes up” or a schedule and see “next decade is mighty fine”
