This isn't how most Americans act towards others.
You either only visited a shit part of the US, or you've never been here.
I'm guessing your demographic or wealth makes you part of the in group. (As a Black Male American, I can say even in the most liberal places, if the community is predominantly white. You are treated differently.) I'm adopted and I'm very close with both sets of family. Whenever I go to my white extended family's gatherings it's nice, but different. They all are very liberal but cultural racism still pops up every time because they just don't know. They simply don't think about race in the same way.
Can you explain the ways?
The simplest way to explain it is, I have to aware of my skin color in everything I do. I know my actions don't only reflect myself but every black person that came before and after. White individuals see themselves as individuals. If a white person does something wrong very few people say what's wrong with the white community? When a black person does something wrong it's common discourse to blame the black community as a whole. This is why collective punishment is easy to do by the US government. It's been doing that to brown Americans since day one. Ice for example is an organization dedicated to collectively punishing brown people for demanding equal treatment. I guarantee very few white people get nervous when ICE is around because they are unlikely to be targeted by them. That's a whole life worry they don't have to worry about it. They simply don't be too think about their race as much and rearly in a way that existential.
As a non-murican i'm curious about what is "cultural racism".
For example: I was at my adoptive grandmother's funeral a couple weeks back. The extended family knows of me or some I haven't seen in 20 years. (I'm mid 30s) During the activities surrounding the funeral I was sudo ostracized from most conversations while simultaneously have several eyes on me the whole time. When ever I was given the spotlight you could see the amazement on some faces that I didn't sound and speak like they expected. My great aunt even came to me and said she was impressed at how well spoken, kind, and educated I was during the whole week. Any one that knows anything about black history, that isn't a compliment to a black person because what did she expect? (she automatically assumed I wouldn't be those things.) The black people shown even on the most left mainstream news are not shown in the best framing.
I'd call that racism by ignorance (if there's a difference) but i see what you mean now, thanks for clarifying.
