There's also the fact that he wrapped up his "Toxic content" list into the security layer of the system that is there to keep a lid on spam and bots. So your choice is either to have an open forum on your instance and deal with spam and bots using your instance as a playground, or having security and blocking a whole mess of people that you don't actually want to block.

And all of this on top of him not bothering to tell anybody who exactly he was blocking with that list or why.

Handling spam should be handled at the instance level and not some fake cosmetic filter. More importantly it's the job of server admins to moderate their servers, not frontend developers to decide unilaterally.
