My discussions since joining Lemmy & dbzer0 specifically are so much higher quality than when I used Reddit. People aren't calling each other stupid, and real discussions seem to be had from both sides of different topics. Maybe the instance I'm in is just well-moderated but I can't see how this community could be considered toxic or put on a blacklist by anyone other than those who are ignorant and judge books by their covers.

You might have missed the troubles, a period when squid was still active and being anti Zionist could and would get you banned across whole instances where pointing out that Joe Biden was clearly losing in their race to be president would result in a several week ban for some of the most important and critical members of the community. The petty authoritarianism really can't be dismissed, and it's probably the most important issue facing the project currently.
I call people on reddit stupid all the time, but that's because there are genuinely a lot of stupid people on reddit who appear to be ignorant of their predicament. Unfortunately I only have so much time in a day so the vast majority of stupid redditors carry on blissfully unaware.
