Wonder if Hollywood will read the room and cut out all this gaudy self-congratulatory awards crap altogether? nah. It's not enough they become rich they need trophys too

And publicity. The publicity generates money, so it won’t end, until enough people tire of it and it doesnt generate money.

I suppose, I thought ratings had been falling year after year for the awards show but I haven't really been paying THAT much attention. I do understand the point of the awards, I just don't like that like most things in life the people doing the most work never even see the inside of the ballroom. I think the (good) writers should be celebrated far more than the actors, but then I guess that's not very exciting for most people

Ratings have been falling, which makes them less profitable for the tv station showing them. For the movies and tv shows, it’s almost free publicity. For the actors and actresses, same.

Just being nominated for an Oscar leads to a bump in cinema revenues.
