minor trauma dump
The reason I put a sarcasm tone indicator on this is because last year I had a mental health crisis in which I broke from reality. I believed that some friends of mine had made me go viral, to the point that major corporations like youtube were getting in on the action. I was browsing Lemmy, and I thought I saw signs of this belief everywhere. A comment like mine without this kind of indicator would have reinforced that beliefI think it's really easy to feel like that in today's internet. The way algorithms automatically try to show you what they think you want to see, across different sites and apps .. if you are already falling into that state of mind, it could reinforce it easily. I'm glad you're doing better now
Yet another reason to aggressively block ads and tracking.
That sounds really disturbing to go through, I hope you’re feeling at least somewhat better now! If you don’t mind me asking, was there anything in particular that helped you reconnect with reality? Even if you don’t want to answer, thank you for sharing your experience.
Thank you! I've fully recovered and thankfully living a very fulfilling life since that occurred. I got out of it because my family knew something was wrong and checked me into the emergency department at a hospital, and then getting checked into a psych ward. The thing that snapped me back to reality was being brought to a padded room at about 2am. Once I realized my delusion, I started to quickly recover. I spent a week in the grippy sock hotel, and continued to regain my emotional stability for several months afterwards
Except your instance is using PieFed! There's also Mbin, nodeBB, flarum says that they will join, Mbin and PieFed also share with Mastodon, ... it's a party up in here alright! 🥳🎉🎊
I think "Lemmy" refers to the threadiverse the way "Kleenex" refers to tissues.
That's the part I was reacting to - it's non-inclusive, as opposed to e.g. Threadiverse or wider terms such as Fediverse or Social Media or even Internet.
That's like assuming that every person you talk to on the internet is a neurotypical cishet man, or that everyone on Reddit is from the USA - even if statistically speaking true, it is not very welcoming, nor terribly precise.
Then again, this is !memes@lemmy.world... which tbf is Lemmy. Though the way the ActivityPub Protocol works is that you don't "go on lemmy" so much as your software of choice goes to grab it for you. And it is great to have choices for how we want to share content together!
Yeah, but if you ask for a kleenex and I hand you a Puffs Plus with Aloe, are you really going to throw it back in my face and say "I SAID KLEENEX!"?
I mean... some people are royal jerks, and would do exactly that, yes.:-P
It doesn't make it right, just bc it happens.
