The notion that the Nazis were competent is a retcon
Yeah they were psychotic crackheads that ran their country into the ground too. Almost like there is some kind of through line with fascist thinking.

Yeah, and they were grifters too.
It does feel like stupidity makes people buy into conservatism, and then fuck everything else up.
Its fear and anxiety that make them stupid.
Its the other way around. People are afraid of what they don't understand.
Ignorance of a world with an ever changing social structure, drives fear and anxiety in those who don't understand that. That fear and anxiety can be exploited at large to get people to make irrational decisions that benefit only a few.
There are levels.
WWII Nazis are far more competent than today’s Nazis.
