I havent seen anything abkut this mocie other than it is coming out. What's the problem people are having? I wasnt excited or anything cause Nolan, but to give him some credit, he tends to avoid cgi as much as possible and I have been hoping that would be the case with the monsters and stuff, if I could see Greek mythology guys done without cgi in a movie made after 2004, that's worth a ticket to me.

rightists are mad because non-white people and trans people are playing greek heroes

more normal people are laughing because all the promo footage looks pretty shitty, with space marines and stuff, and the flat bland "current day" netflix lighting

nolanites are defending any and all choices made because "it's a fantasy movie with monsters but you have problems with ____?"

I just watched the trailer...yeah, doesn't look great. Feels very mid 2000s. Like half way between Troy and 300. My ancient Greek nerd brain is also not hyped on the costumes. It would be cool to see some accuracy at least once. Im fine with adaptations of mythology not being totally accurate all the time, but it should be done at least once.

Troy: Fall of a City had good-looking costumes iirc

Good looking as in accurate or as in looking good? I have t even heard of the series until now, but I am a sucker for Troy's ill have to check it out. From screenshot, you could do worse. Probably be more wearing less and the typical 'everybody wore earth tones until the late 40s and even then only Americans' thing of cinema is there.

More restrained, I guess. Not looking like magic Romans.

Depends on the vibe of the movie for me. If sometjong is trying g to seem historical I want the well paid people working on it to do as much work looking into it as I have in my free time

Sure, but the Trojan War as we know it is a mythical mishmash of a potentially real conflict, tropes from other Bronze Age civilizations the Greeks were in contact with, and outright fabrications to make sure that powerful people's ancestors got time to shine, right?

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago

Yeah, so all you really have to do is avoid making them look post bronze age, which doesnt happen much

The main thing everybody is clowning on the movie for is how the protagonist's armor looks like renaissance fair batman

Just looked at the trailer and yeah, this looks like if Troy and 300 had a baby but waited until.they had been married for 20 years first
