Abuelita died at 96. It was a good and long life for her. She wasn’t the kindest woman but she expressed herself deeply when times called for it.

Anyway—her grandfather and my great great grand father— fought for Zapata during the Mexican Revolution. It was motivating to see her alive and retell his war stories.

I dunno how to feel. The world is shit. Having hope is hard. I also feel bad about missing her stories more than her..

I dunno… shits hard right now.

i learned a while ago that my grandfather was hunted and his first wife was killed by the cristeros because both of them sided against the church in the cristero rebellion phase of that revolution.

it's odd to think that such a small, meek, passive, humble man who told doddering, old-man style, long-winded stories once pissed off the catholic church so much that it created an army to try to assassinate him and it makes me wish that i was older so i could have heard and understood those stories.

sorry about your grandmother. it sounds like her stories will keep her spirit alive within you and a part of me envies you for having the chance to hear and understand them.
