Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

MODERATORS

A reminder that as the US continues to threaten countries around the world, fedposting is to be very much avoided (even with qualifiers like "in Minecraft") and comments containing it will be removed.

Image is of a destroyed American AWACS plane in Saudi Arabia, of which there is a very limited supply and each of which is enormously expensive both monetarily and in terms of components. Iran hit this with a precision drone strike that likely cost ~$20,000.

I don't have much to add from the last megathread description. This isn't to say that nothing has happened or has changed since then - decades are still happening in weeks - but the general flow of the war is remaining the same. Trump sometimes threatens to open the Strait with troops and flatten Iran to rubble, and other times threatens that he's gonna back off and let other countries handle it if they really want little trifles like "fuel" and "energy" so much. Iran continues to strike across the Middle East. The West continues to bomb civilian infrastructure due to their relative inability to affect the missile cities. In all: things are generally getting worse for America and the Zionists.

April is the month where the last ships that left Hormuz before it was closed will arrive around the world, so the last month of economic turmoil has been a mere prelude to what's going to occur in the near-future. The silver lining is that Iran appears to be formalizing the new state of affairs in Hormuz, creating a rial-based toll to allow passage between a pair of Iranian-controlled islands where they can be monitored, meaning that, as long as the US doesn't do something exceptionally stupid, the global energy crisis may "only" last a couple years instead of simply being the new reality from now on. Some countries have already agreed to this arrangement, and others will inevitably follow despite their consternation as their economies increasingly suffer.

The Zionist Entity's Genocide of Palestine

If you have evidence of Zionist crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against the temporary Zionist entity. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on the Zionists' destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news.
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

Mirrors of Telegram channels that have been erased by Zionist censorship.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

What’s the deal with the "Slander People Bros"

I’m talking about the loosely aligned Hexbear Poster coalition of everybody that has participated in this redditesque Threat ?

Why do they have this Need to Divide and Slander ? Is it the Radlibery , Are they Zionist ? Is it American Money ? the market, a combination, or something else entirely?

Why would they run such an Empty "Please find me something, i can hold over them" Assault on the “multipolarity bros Alliance”?

What their Cui Bono ?

[–] carpoftruth@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That subthread is just a few hours old, if you want to talk about it, reply in the subthread

[–] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

nah i think i made it perfactly clear why such Threaths are Problematic. Just delete Both , so that later vistor dont see it.

[–] carpoftruth@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago

No you didn't. Be more respectful of the community. In the last several hours you've made a newsless subthread and posted what appears to be fake news/wild speculation without source (your comment about Iran having Soviet nukes). You're on thin ice here.

[–] HarryLime@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

Jerry Seinfeld voice: What's the deal with multipolarity bros?

[–] Jabril@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Seems like people there are being pretty up front about why they think the grifter non-leftist analysts are grifters and not leftists. Why is it a problem to have an accurate analysis of them?

[–] SeventyTwoTrillion@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

yeah, like, as I said earlier, some are grifters (though I think a small minority; anti-hegemonic thinking is much less profitable than aligning with the US), some are true believers but have conservative brainworms and are anti-imperialist in the sense that they don't want a literal military empire but not anti-imperialist in the Marxist-Leninist definition, and some are principled communists

all are better than the Zionists. I'm certainly not going to start throwing insults at them despite ideological differences because we're aligned where it's currently most important (the US must be beaten back from the Middle East and Ukraine) and there are many, many, many more people to insult who are much worse

[–] Boise_Idaho@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

all are better than the Zionists.

Far too many of them push ZOG, as if the US is just a smol bean that is being bamboozled by Netanyahu. This is my number one criticism of the vulgar anti-imperialists.

[–] Jabril@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Yes I think many of them are useful for certain people at certain times. The limitations are that they aren't explicitly anti capitalist which allows people to feel like they are more informed and sufficiently anti-war without having a complete analysis that truly opposes the root cause of the problems they may genuinely want to solve. As far as grifting goes, being anti-hegemonic is surely profitable because there has always been a large basis of libs and conservalibs who are anti war and want an analysis that aligns with that without demanding anything of them. Finding a niche to exploit is a key of successful grifting

[–] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yes inital comment left only bad options , no "they care about the World of Realpolitik" , and then as you have noticed yourself , but was impressed by it , everybody freely specualted about the bad options , and they did conjuriour up some bad possibilities.

Barbarism is the Presumtion of Guilt. Mostly of Collective guilt of Peoplegroups.

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I said something else as well! I made sure to leave the door open for opinions such as yours!

[–] ThomasMuentzer@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago

I read that as you would like to have your innoncents assumted ?

Golden Rules.

[–] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

You will not belive it , but this threat here is actually Detterence against non news Content

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It’s the Zionism. I’m questioning Danny Haiphong and Douglas MacGregor for my god king Netanyahu

[–] ThomasMuentzer@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Slander Tactics work via vage assosiations and Purity . So if I would like to Slander the Author of "The Israel Lobby" in leftist information spaces .

I would aggressivly try to assosicate it with Lower tier & "impure" Commentors , Like Scott Ritter or the Wild General.

we can notice here that initialy the Names where :

Glenn Diesen, Alexander Mercurious, Jeffrey sachs, John Mearsheimer, Theodore Postol, Daniel Davis, that Napolitano guy, Max Blumenthal, among many others)

now she has suddenly switch to a HOLE DIFFERENT SORT OF NAMES . Isnt that Mysterious ?

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Do you deny that JM is an ardent American imperialist? And I have plenty of names, want me to list more? I’m not seeing the difference between Danial davis, judge napolitano, and macgregor, or between Glenn, Alex, and max. please explain the implication (jk I get you’re calling me Mossad)

[–] ThomasMuentzer@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

why did you switch out the names ?

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

To smear them of course! Maliciously associating people who go on podcasts with people who host those podcasts. I also mentioned Mohamed Marandi, Richard Wolff, and Michael Hudson

[–] ThomasMuentzer@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

See... i dont think we should slander people Maliciously in the Newsmega , how about you try this presumtion of Innocents on them first for once ?

Maybe Jeffrey Sachs was once a crual IMF Goul that has Plundered Russia then saw the Light and is now a Anti American & Multipolarity spokesperson , Speaking in front of the UN and shit..?

Maybe John Mearsheimer is A Very greatly Knowledgebale Professor of Geopolitics and therefore his opinion is importan to hear in Geopolitics. He is slandered by the Israel Lobby because he wrote a book the Israel lobby.

Maybe Mohammed Marandi is a iranian Professor whos land is Bombed daily thats allowed on western Media to speak in a Pro Iranian pesrpective making them so Angry they put Bounties on his head.

Maybe i am just Oldschool , not joining every Mob.

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I’m not “presuming” anything, I make assessments based on evidence. Sachs seems genuine, Marandi is a hero, mearsh wants to improve America’s East Asian slaughter capabilities. Hence my interest in what unites all these platforms

[–] ThomasMuentzer@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"what is dissent , should people be allowed to do it?"

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago
