CO - Central Office (a box for all intents and purposes)

CAB - Cabinet (not joking)

BEP - Building entry point (it's a box)

FB - Floor box

If you're wondering what the rest are ...

OLT - Optical Line Terminal (it's the source of data)

ONT - Optical Network Terminal (it's the end user)

OTO - Optical Terminal Outlet (it's the fucking port or whatever you plug your thing into)

Acronyms on the caption

G652D/G657A1 are types of optical fibers

FTTH - Fiber To The Home

Now you might be wondering.

"How many other acronyms does this paper have?". 23 on the first 2 pages.

"Is this paper readable?". No. Why do you think I'm making this post instead of reading that paper?

"What is the funniest acronym on this paper?". I think CAB and FB are good contenders. But more funny is that this paper does not make an acronym of "Bob station" or "Alice station". Those must be written out in their full glory each time.

  1. Are those acronyms jokes you just made or actual terms?
  2. Please tell me "Splice enclosures" aren't also just boxes

Those are actual terms and yes, splice closures are watertight enclosures for splicing. Theyre usually cylyndrical boxs you see on aerial comm cables attached to Snow Shoes (SS) which are those things that look like show shoes and prevent the Fiber Optic Cable (FOC Transmedia) from surpassing it's bend radius in the Slack Loop (SL)

Here's the official training site for Fiber Optic workers

(I secretly love it because it's pure HTML and still updated regularly)
