There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers
Teachers say this because they need stupid students to identify themselves.
In any other context, there are indeed stupid questions which when asked will identify the asker as an idiot.

There's a huge amount of stupid questions. I know, because I ask them all the time.
Why??
You're comparing the top 0.001% of OF models with "a lot of opensource developers".
And the question gives off weird vibes, like "how come hard-working (male) devs make less than women just showing their tits?"
It's a constant question from right-wing men who don't understand how the world works.
Someone should ask those right-wing men when was the last time they donated to an open source project.
