Because this isn't about whether it benefits the US population. Venezuela, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam, etc. did not benefit the US population, regardless of the varying levels of US public support for the action.
This war on Iran does have the potential to benefit and maintain US hegemony and the Dollar. A weak Iran is a benefit to the US empire. A strong, independent Iran hinders it.
