A self-funded, low budget independent passion project, with little to no marketing, that managed to get a wide theatrical release in over 3,000 theaters (WITHOUT the involvement of a distributor), and make back its' budget in just three days is nothing short of amazing.
Congratulations to Markiplier for this fantastic achievement!
No shade on him. This is absolutely no small achievement. But for many, the man himself is marketing. Millions, watch, and enjoy his YouTube videos over the last decade or two. I know I have and it's the only reason I knew about this movie. Literally, before last night. I had not seen anything else come up in any feed about the movie outside of Mark himself.
I hope it continues to blow up though. He absolutely deserves it. And it's putting egg all over Hollywood's face. Hollywood definitely deserves it.
The only thing I know about Markiplier is I recognize his name. So yea.
Watching his fans get it from three theaters to three thousand was pretty amazing.
