You can see the woman behind him, to his immediate right. She clearly forgot to apply a dab of Vaseline underneath her nose. She must be new lol.

I think you're thinking of Vicks Vaporub - it's normally applied to the upper chest to help open up nasal congestion.

Vaseline is a non-scented lubricating spread.

Does Vaseline work for blocking smells? :o

[–] RustyShackleford@piefed.social 10 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

It’s commonly used by individuals who are new to crime scenes or have never encountered active crime scenes where the corpse smells are very prevalent.

You sure you're not thinking of peppermint oil? I've heard of it being used inside surgical masks in hospitals

[–] halfapage@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I'm confused. Do you apply it under nose, or inside nostrils?

[–] RustyShackleford@piefed.social 6 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

A dab under the nose, it’s so minty strong that your mind can’t smell any other scent.

I always thought they were dabbing smelling salts or at least something like Vicks vapor rub.

Yeah, Vick's is probably what they were actually thinking of. Vaseline is unscented. Wouldn't be very helpful.
