I think the political calculus by the bouge is that economic collapse is coming very soon and this stuff will become a lot more palatable once that happens.
That's probably their calculus but I think they're wrong about that too. They can't pull it off with no carrot and they are so greedy and lacking in foresight that they just eat all the carrots they get themselves instead of offering one to the working class
it's a game of chicken and they want the other bourge faction to make concessions first
that seems dumb as shit on their part if so
