‘Legally carrying a firearm is not the same as brandishing a firearm,’ the former Georgia congresswoman wrote

Marjorie Taylor Greene has urged fellow MAGA supporters – and other Americans – to “take off their political blinders” over the death of protester Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, warning that they are being “incited into civil war.”

“I unapologetically believe in border security and deporting criminal illegal aliens and I support law enforcement,” Greene wrote on X Sunday, the day after the fatal shooting. “However, I also unapologetically support the 2nd amendment.

“Legally carrying a firearm is not the same as brandishing a firearm.”

Despite video showing that 37-year-old Pretti was filming federal officers but did not have a weapon drawn, the Trump administration has claimed he had tried to assassinate agents in an act of “domestic terrorism.”

People need to stop acting like she's turned over a new leaf. She's a crazy racist. She has nothing to say that's worth hearing. She did more than most to put us where we are. She belongs in the sea.

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 1 points 16 minutes ago

Yeah people don't become non racist in a couple months. The best case scenario is that she actually has no ideology, was using racism to extend her support base and now is trying to switch sides because she wasn't accepted as a top level member to the racist boys' club (suprise suprise they also turned out to be sexist).

Her saying this is better than her not saying anything at all—we can demand more from her but we can also benefit from her existence at the moment since she isn't staying silent

She’s a crazy racist

Do you realize need someone to explain to you why trump losing the support of crazy racists is a big deal?

[–] suddenlyme@lemmy.zip 39 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

This. The way forward is this. Her audience needs to hear this. Not us on Lemmy, we already know.

It boils down to a simplified "us versus them" attitude that the wealthy exploit regardless of party.

No one should agree with anyone 100% of the time, because then you're just blindly agreeing and not thinking.

But people who view the world as binary teams like that can't rationalize any of "them" saying anything right.

Right now it's very important to remember because fascists are always dogshit at maintaining a coaltion after assuming power. Divide and conquer is cliche for a reason, it fucking works.

We need to hammer the 2A angle, because 2A is a huge chunk of Republican support. That's one of their top wedge issues.

Pro-gun progressives could always dominate any election, but even more so now that the left should understand how important gun rights are. And we'd still cut down on mass shootings, because people would feel like they have something to lose in the first place.

Look, yes. She’s a piece of shit. But she’s not wrong here. And honestly, we need people (even batshit crazy racists) calling out the stupid shit Trump and co are doing.

Do not conflate agreement with acceptance. We need all the help we can get right now. Worry about washing your hands later. Too many good people are dying to stay on that high horse.

[–] Xenny@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

At this current point in time, anybody against Trump in this fascist regime is a friend of mine

You’re not supposed to throw trash in the sea.
