If this forecast holds, the infrastructure damage from this storm is going to be catastrophic, potentially worse than a category 5 hurricane. People will be without power for weeks or potentially months and the roads will be completely impassable with downed trees and power lines.

Any comrades in these areas, please do your best to stay safe and warm. Stock up on some non-perishable food if you still have time.

He said "infrastructure damage," which is extremely plausible. Even a regular ice storm does WAY more damage to power lines and trees than you'd think it would. The magnitude of this combined with the fact that the power grid in a lot of these places is perpetually hanging on by a thread anyway (and nobody owns any serious winter gear or knows how to prep for a big winter storm) is a recipe for pretty serious damage. It's not gonna take the roof off of houses (though trees might do damage to some homes), but power down for weeks and roads impassable for days isn't at all out of the question.
