Electric heating element in the shower head.

It sounds scary, but there's no direct path to the electricity since there is no laminar flow between you and the showerhead and most of the water that is passing over the showerhead is not especially electrically conductive because there are no salts mixed into it that don't come directly from the water plant.

It has to actually have a mechanical fault that doesn't cause the shower heater to stop working and you have to come physically into contact with the shower head while that fault is going on in order for you to get zapped.

But it is possible for you to get zapped by them, and some people have died, I am sure, although I don't personally have any proof.

Your comment seems to rely on people not being able to hold the showerhead in their hand. Are they all fixed/rain type showers?

[–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

The ones I have seen are.

I feel it would be rather dumb to hold a 240 volt appliance directly in your hand.

That being said, there might be shower nozzle attachment things, but I don't actually know. It's just a supposition.

Electroboom has a good video on them.

That kill fewer people than gas heaters...

[–] BearGun@ttrpg.network 13 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

On the other hand, I've yet to hear anyone being killed by a regular shower head.

Legionella just entered the chat. If your hot water isn't hot enough you might be breeding them in your water lines and aerosolizng with your shower head.

I'd think Legionella is a lot less of a problem with suicide showers.

You mean one with only cold water?

[–] Zwiebel@feddit.org 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

The rest of the world makes the water warm before it goes to the shower head

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Do they wash dishes in cold water? Idk if my hands would like that more or less my well comes out like 38°

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There's a central place with a magical piece of technology that heats the water making it available to all the places where water comes out.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

No I understand how normal water heaters work, I have propane on demand.

[–] marcos@lemmy.world -1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

With what? A gas heater? I remember I've made a comment about those.

[–] sukhmel@programming.dev 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There are electric heaters that aren't installed in the shower head, too

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yes...

But what's your point? That doesn't make central gas heating not dangerous or the overhead electric heaters any dangerous.
