Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Greenland is going to be a state now?

Did... anyone ask them...?

[–] Corngood@lemmy.ml 70 points 2 days ago (1 children)

when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago

Grab 'em by the Parliament

[–] cowfodder@lemmy.world 38 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Yes. An overwhelming majority do not want to join the US.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Meanwhile, Puerto Rico and D.C.: "am I a joke to you?!"

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 38 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Puerto Rico is brown people and DC is a majority black so like yes they are a joke to these people

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 19 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Doesn't Washington DC host the largest and longest running clown convention on the planet?

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I guess that is one way to refer to congress

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

More polite than me, that’s for sure.

[–] Headofthebored@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Damn, looks like serious business there.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Don't blame them one bit. USA has fallen soooooo far.

[–] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 2 points 2 days ago

Surprising. Can't imagine why.

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 24 points 2 days ago (4 children)

If anything they're going to be a territory or something like that. There's no way they get two senators.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 19 points 2 days ago

Right. Imagine these clowns accidentally adding 3 blue electoral college votes for no reason.

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Because taxation without representation worked so well the first time around

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 3 points 2 days ago

Residents of US territories don't pay federal income tax.

Papa rape ape is finna force greenland to make their own taliban

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

This is totally going to end well.

Totally.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago

Of course not. Same reason why Puerto Rico isn't a state. They'd vote blue

Hopefully we can learn from the mistakes of our past.

But it's not looking good.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Ask our etetnal adversaries?

We have always been at war with Greenland.

East-Asia is our ally.

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh no. Definitely not a state. Just a territory. The people there won't get citizenship or anything.

[–] gjoel@programming.dev 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 1 points 2 days ago

Maybe. Small consolation prize. Puerto Rico doesn't pay federal income taxes, though they do get citizenship.

American Samoans don't pay federal income taxes but they also don't get citizenship.

[–] Areexor@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

That would be undemocratic because it would go againts the wishes of the democratically elected President of the United States. 4D chess only an idiot would come up with.
