It’s almost as if the priest is suggesting that God wants us uneducated to be better subservient to him, and that seeking knowledge is punishable (by death technically).
Kinda the point of Satanism.
Monotheistic religion formed in a dialectical relationship with the state. Obedience to God reinforces obedience to the King. No gods no masters is quite literal. Monotheistuc religion is a superstructure created by the material conditions of nascent monarchical statehood that reinforces the conditions that created it.
I've heard many an atheist suggest God is bad for not making us uneducated and subservient to Him and giving us free will in the first place.
It's not free will if he knows what will happen.
Atheist here, interestingly he doesn't!
God is bound by linear time apparently since he regretted making man as revealed to Noah before the flood.
You can't regret things if you knew it would happen and you're all knowing.
So he is demonstrably not all knowing and not all powerful.
But this does mean free will exists under christian logic. Which you can also just completely ignore since its not real anyways.
God can act. That doesn't mean he's ignorant. The book is written from the perspective of humans and we're gullible.
Does free will exist in heaven?
Depends how you define it. You'd have free will but the temptation to sin is gone. The temptation to sin comes from Satan.
That's blame shifting. God as the creator of everything is responsible for everything. He could have created humanity in such a manner that they weren't prone to sin. He could have created Satan in a manner that he wouldn't fall and tempt people to sin.
Without darkness you can never notice light
This is not true according to the Bible.
It says we are "born in sin" and unworthy of God, only by accepting baby Jesus do we become pure enough for God to tolerate us.
Also, God created Satan, with full knowledge of what he would be, so even if you were right, God would be the source of Satan (and sin).
"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." ~Isaiah 45:7
That's the King James Version, an old translation, the meaning of "evil" has changed. A better translation of it would be "calamity" or "disaster" which God does do to punish sin.
Sure, God had knowledge Satan would turn against Him, but you could also give birth to a child with knowledge that it'll have a disability. That's not the same as giving it a disability.
The difference being that parents don't literally create every aspect of their child with the perfect knowledge of exactly what it will do. God does. To imply God didn't intend for Satan to do what he did means you have to throw away either all-knowing or all-powerful for your idea of God.
The King James version was good enough for God for millennia, so it's good enough for me.
You could say the "disaster/calamity" of the Great Flood (for example) is different from "evil" if you'd like. That amuses me, go on

The King James Version was written in 1600s English. The meaning of words have changed a lot over that time period. You can't just say the meaning of the Bible changes because the English language has changed. That's just stupidity. The modern translation of that word is closer to "calamity"
That's neat. Meanwhile, explain to me how the "calamity" of the Great Flood was not evil, or how the "calamity" in Hell for all eternity is not evil, or how killing everyone on Earth who doesn't bow to Jesus is not evil (Revelation), and so on.
He's the source of all evil (and calamity), there is no evil without God. It's stupid to think anything else. So stupid.
God says He is the source of all evil. Are you calling Him a liar? Your "talking point" is an absurdity.
Same reason as why sending someone to prison for committing murder isn't evil. It is justice. Punishing evil isn't evil. It's Justice. And God is Perfect, therefore He's Perfectly Just.
There's no justice in Hell.
There's no justice in the Apocalypse.
He's perfectly evil, and He hangs out with Lucifer and makes bets and tortures people for sport.

Quite frankly, I find comfort in that the scum of this earth will be punished. I don't need to bear grudges, as God would sort it out. The apocalypse is what this wretched race of people deserve. You see it in the news, we rape, kill and murder each other over lines on maps and money. We were given this earth by Him and we are actively destroying it. It's actually so merciful of God to even let us live than to just end us all this very second.
If you're talking about Job, Job makes it clear that it's Lucifer who tortures people. Lucifer only tortures people when God lifts His protection. But in the end, Job was not only compensated on earth, but is in heaven. I doubt right now that thousands of years later, Job enjoying all of that thousands of years of glory really cares about what happened for those few short decades thousands of years ago.

Lucifer tortures people because God made him to torture people... God Himself likes to watch the suffering of others, and the smell of their burning flesh is like incense to Him. Disgusting filth.
It's vile, the entire book from start to finish. But you go right ahead and take comfort in eternal torture.
Meanwhile, God Himself commanded His people to take slaves, rape, and murder, over and over and over and over. I'm sure you take comfort in that, too.
If you don't want anything to do with Jesus, He respects your decision.
If you're talking about hell, no he doesn't. Hell was made to torture him. Hell wasn't made for Humans. Heaven was.
Rape was never commanded. God executed his judgement on the evil and the wicked. You cannot be mad at God for wiping out the wicked.
Okay, burning in Hell for not wanting anything to do with the mass murderer Jesus is by no means "just". Also, murdering those who do not agree to worship is not "respecting your decision"
God knew it was made to torture humans, how can you tell? Because He uses it to torture humans. He describes their torture.
Lucifer? Well, He hangs out with Lucifer, and they talk and gossip and murder and torture for sport. According to God, anyway. Are you calling God a liar?
Sure it was, repeatedly. Do you think the new "owners" waited for consent to have sex with their newly-captured virgin slave wives whose family they just murdered in cold blood? Absurd. Sickening. Vile.
God knew they would be raped, because He commanded "His People" to enslave (and marry) them. The lucky ones were murdered.
That's not just. People who don't worship God are not "wicked" and worthy of murder and rape.
That's the EXACT OPPOSITE of justice.
If you hate and oppose the literal embodiment of Perfection, then yes. Yes it is.
It's described as the "The lake of fire prepared for the devil and his angels" while heaven is described as "I am going there to prepare a place for you"
You're referring to the Old Testament now. Marriage was permitted at one point to captured women because the people's hearts were hard and it was a concession. It instructed that she was to be afforded the privileges and dignity of a wife, and thus wasn't a sex slave.
Tell me more about punishing evil infants.
