The GG gamers seemed to all have the AAA games though, and computers that could run them. Their "side of the story" as I encountered it was of nerds who had suffered from being ostracized as individuals and as a community, claiming that they were being ignored and denied the identity that was their refuge. Which uh, was eventually understood to refer to women's perspectives being adopted by the industry as well as casual gaming being more normalized.
