In the John Cena video he says they can't pick apples off of trees because that "harms the tree", but aren't there literally millions of species of plant that literally evolved tasty fruit to attract animals to eat them to distribute seeds? I'd think the Plurbs would have some botanists and biologists in their collective that know this, and I'd argue if a plant literally evolves a berry that's like "hey eat my berries!" they consenting to have you eat their berries.

Should couldn't they all just eat berry smoothies?

Again I gotta stop watching this as a serious SciFi show.

The reason this rule exists is to artificially kneecap the plurb and make them the villainous zombie invasion.

Its given as a mid season twist and basically solidifies that everyone besides carol and manousos are bad and evil for letting the plurb get humanity extinct.

The writers think communism is good in theory but then it has famines because people lose their agency.

Maybe, also think Gilligan just had an idea and is using it as a structure to build character drama around.

If the show wanted to actually present a philosophy to it's SciFi world building it'd probably benefit from a scene like this from Pantheon (mind you these are the villains of the first season of the show). But that's too much to ask from most western media.
