"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Regulation. Active attempts at reducing the gun load. Anything more than fucking "thoughts and prayers" when all y'all get another batch of children butchered in school.
Here's a start: licensure. Freedom of movement is part of the American constitution as well, yet you license cars, have proof of insurance, etc. Driving without a license or insurance gets you into hot water.
Now try the same with guns. With commensurately higher penalties if caught owning and using without a license. This would be literally the minimum you could do ... and you don't do even that much.
But hey, congrats on the "thoughts and prayers". I'm sure they'll protect you from the next insane fuckwit in a school.
Guess what, literally 5 seconds with google can show you that many states have that already!
Yes, you're getting the AI overview, because your answer didn't involve any effort, so why should mine?
Go on and lecture me about thoughts and prayers some more. I'm definitely one of those folks, given all I've typed up about this, prick.
Edit: Additionally, there are legal battles and lobbying happening on both sides of this shit constantly in the US. This group pushing for more restrictions, for more gun safety course hours needed for a permit. That group pushing for background checks to ignore non-violent crime. Some other group pushing for no restrictions at all because of the whole "shall not be infringed" line of the second amendment to our constitution.
Again, I must insist that anyone who truly believes this is due to a lack of awareness or effort hasn't been actually paying attention. So maybe if you don't live in the US, and you don't have exposure to all the absurd amount of politics and shit going on here from a federal level all the way down to local community level, just maybe you should hold up a second before making huge sweeping generalizations based off gut feeling and your limited insight on the reality of things here.
It doesn't matter what the cause is: politics, ignorance, bloodlust, whatever. The effect is the only thing that matters: you've decided as a culture that the slaughter of innocents is just hunky-dory. Whether at home or abroad.
Your entire culture is a sick death cult and thankfully it's in its final throes. The only worry left is how many other people you take with you as you fall.
The cause is important because that's literally what we're talking about: People from outside the US insisting the cause of these problems is something it is not.
I'm not defending anything about the situation here. I'm telling you that you undermine your own point. Enjoy watching us fall if that's what you're into, but don't delude yourself into thinking you have some level of insight into things that the people living through it are somehow too stupid to understand. That's just not how the world works in regards to longstanding and complex issues wrapped up in political mess.
