Chat is a text only community for casual conversation, please keep shitposting to the absolute minimum. This is intended to be a separate space from c/chapotraphouse or the daily megathread. Chat does this by being a long-form community where topics will remain from day to day unlike the megathread, and it is distinct from c/chapotraphouse in that we ask you to engage in this community in a genuine way. Please keep shitposting, bits, and irony to a minimum.

As with all communities posts need to abide by the code of conduct, additionally moderators will remove any posts or comments deemed to be inappropriate.

I haven't seen him in coming up on a month now. The newspapers in his paper tube pilled up and they stopped delivering. No one has been by his house and I haven't seen any lights on. My other neighbor texted me the other day asking if I had seen him to which I told her no I have no clue where he is. The last I had seen him the ambulance was over at his place then left, I was in the middle of making dinner so I couldn't see if they took him away.

Anywho it's just weird. He's a weird shitty guy and I dislike him so I'm not going to get too bent out of shape if he's kicked the bucket.

I'd recommend taking in any newspapers or mail and leaving a note to tell them that you noticed it piling up and you're holding on to it for them so that their mail doesn't get stolen.

People will look for piled up mail as an indication that it's the right house to break into so it's good community work to help protect someone from that, unless they are an absolutely vile piece of shit who will start a fight with you over this kind gesture (in which case, fuck them.)

I'd also recommend calling in a welfare check asap. They might be in dire need of help. Or worse. It'd suck to know that they didn't get the help they needed and that something could have been done but now it's too late. You've gotta be alive in order to turn a new leaf and sometimes it takes having a broken leg due to an accident and surviving on cat food for weeks (because it's the only food left in the house) with nobody checking on you because nobody cares about you due to you being an insufferable asshole to everyone your entire life before it puts your behavior into sharp contrast and it forces you to change your attitude. I'm not saying that this is a good thing or that it should be considered as a solution but it is what it is.

I'd call it in as soon as possible.

Don’t take anything, if even for savekeeping with a confession letter, for you could be reported for stealing. And/or the original recipient maybe prefers to avoid reaching out to others and you’d inconvenience them. Put it in a box that remains on their front porch, out of view from the street if possible.

I don’t know about the jurisdiction, or country really this is happening in, but in mine only police and the fire brigade may open doors or break in (though can and will delegate that privilege). An ambulance is not indicative of anything. Maybe they even have interacted with him canvassing his house, but he send them away fearing the bill, and the medics have been unsure this were an emergency. I used to volunteer as paramedic during Christmas season and seen my share of lonely, depressed, and inebriated people; it’s hard to tell from the outside what’s going on.

So, yeah, I second a wellness check.

Oh true, this is probably happening in the US and things are a bit... different there. I guess doing that would could get you arrested or shot over there. I forget that America is unique like that.
