As far Im aware he only told them who would end up on the Iron throne which is the only major plot point of season 7 and 8 that can easily make any logical sense in the book

I'm pretty sure he gave them his whole intended ending. I know I've read somewhere that he provided them with all his notes and sat them down and told them where everyone ends up. I think Dany's fate in the show is taken directly from his notes. She was probably meant to grow increasingly obsessed with conquering and morally ambiguous as she considers what the "cost" of the iron throne is but the show didn't have time for all that build-up so she just snaps.

I'm perfectly okay with the ending in the show, at least the major plot points, I just think they needed more time to actually get there. I think most people I've met are like that. So if that's the ending he wants, fuck 'em, just write it, George. Just, you know, write it better lol.
