Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

MODERATORS

A reminder that as the US continues to threaten countries around the world, fedposting is to be very much avoided (even with qualifiers like "in Minecraft") and comments containing it will be removed.

Image is a map of the Western Sahara, sourced from this article in the Middle East Eye. Much of the information in the preamble also came from there, as well as this article.

November 6th marked the 50th anniversary of Morocco, under King Hassan II, beginning the invasion and occupation of much of the territory of the Western Sahara. Today, approximately 80% of the territory of the Western Sahara is controlled by Morocco, with the Polisario Front - the government of the Sahrawis - controlling the rest, hugging the border of Mauritania. Between them lies one of the longest walls and one of the largest minefields on the planet, of which construction began in the 1980s.

The legitimacy of Morocco's control over the Western Sahara is one of those long-lasting diplomatic issues which ultimately doesn't seem to matter very much in terms of on-the-ground realities, and reveals the eternal uselessness of the United Nations especially in regard to actually helping oppressed people. Up until about 2020, the US and certain other Western countries did not formally recognize Morocco as having sovereignty over the whole territory, but in terms of providing genuine opposition to Morocco, it seems that Algeria is the major player in the region. While American, European, and Moroccan corporations exploit the fisheries and phosphate minerals of the region, protected by their minefields (and claims of merely advancing the cause of renewable energy development, AKA greenwashing), Algeria provides what aid they can to support the displaced Sahrawi people, many of whom have been forced to live in refugee camps.

On October 31st, the US put forward a resolution in the UN Security Council which was adopted (Russia and China abstained) and provided major support to Morocco, urging the Polisario Front to adopt the 2007 "autonomy plan", which would, despite its name, be synonymous with an end to their independence movement. Such a plan was met with much jubilation in Morocco, with King Mohammed VI remarking "From now on, there will be a before and an after October 31, 2025.” Such a date was also the catalyst for the PF intensifying their guerilla struggle against Morocco, as legal avenues for autonomy and basic human rights are running out as the imperialists grow more desperate.

The Zionist Entity's Genocide of Palestine

If you have evidence of Zionist crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against the temporary Zionist entity. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Choice quotes for people don't want to dive in the sewers:

"Dignity" is a very important concept in Ukraine; they call the 2014 revolution the "Revolution of Dignity".

The top comment. Of course, only Ukrainians heard about the concept of dignity. "What's that Gallup thing you keep talking about?"

The US really has no shame. They want compensation for security guarantees, and 50% of the profits from the reconstruction of Ukraine.

astronaut-1

The US is run like the mafia.

Unlike, umm, the dudes with golden toilets?

It's worse than that, Trump's just a greedy mob boss. The plan talks about EU using $100bn to rebuild Ukraine, and its frozen Russian assets used in joint Russian/US (not EU) projects for mineral extraction, and US would take half stake in other rebuilding efforts.

Without any influence from Putin needed, Trump is just trying to steal another continent's resources.

Wait are you telling me the Western hegemonical power is trying to steal another continent's resources?!?! What a U-turn!

Make no mistake. This is a decision between continuing the fight or annihilation amd continued advance on Europe. As long as Trump is anywhere near this, these are the choices.

Yes, codifying new borders after 3.5 years of slow advance means the march to Berlin will continue, the orcs will invade.
Sure, continue the fight for peace. Maybe you can still enlist for the foreign legion.

Americans should be ashamed of themselves and their country.

Yes, now they should be ashamed. Nevermind they killed 80x as many civilians in Iraq.

War is an investment. You bomb a lot of stuff and then you rebuild. Everything is a grift. Like in 2016, the real estate magnate won the elections on the project of "building a wall"? How idiotic is that

If reddit was to be believed, Russia is genociding Ukraine, on par with Israel's genocide

[–] Kieselguhr@hexbear.net 6 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

My favourite contradiction is shitlibs believing that the EU is the bulwark of values and moral politics, while also supporting and arming Israel and the Saudis.

Young shitlib Finn politicians are the perfect synechdoches of this: Sanna Marin went to work for the Saudi-backed Tony Blair institute after losing the election, Elina Valtonen, the OSCE Chair-in-office and Finnish Foreign Minister, attended a demonstration in central Tbilisi as a show of support for the long-running protest for "democracy", then the very next day she was sucking up to Aliyev in Azerbaijan.

They are ridiculous. It's mindboggling how is that the liberal normies don't see the hypocrisy

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 6 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

They have made a cult. Every source that isn't NATO approved is just an outsider trying to corrupt their pure minds. This is why their first instinct when they're backed into a corner is to call you bot or accuse you of being a poor deluded idiot who fell for Russian propaganda.

It's extremely difficult to find your way out of the liberal media apparatus. Google curates what you see, to the point that even searching for counter arguments puts you right back into liberal apologetics. "Uyghur Genocide is fake" will give you specifically the "debunks" for that point of view, point by point. What else can you conclude but you were right the whole time?

AP, Reuters, Ipsos comprise almost all the internaonal reporting in English, and they all share the same curated perspective of good and evil. If you want an actually balanced perspective, you need to read what journos and scholars from around rhe world are saying, but how do you find them, and why shpuld you belive them?

As far as I can tell, a liberal has to have a crisis of faith to begin with. To notice a bald contradiction, then somebody outside of the cult has to hit them with some actual knowledge. If often feels like a crapshoot finding those people

You're right, but what's even weirder that even when I carefully choose Approved Liberal sources, they STILL look at me weird.

It's like they refuse to put 2+2 together. For example, it was the liberal consensus at the start that Russia blew up Nord Stream 2, there was a literal EU-funded snopes-like fake news debunker site calling it Russian propaganda even questioning that narrative. Then a year later it turns out it wasn't the Russians (big surprise), then now the Polish government refuses to extradite one of the suspects, and so on. And your average liberal refuse to see through this veil. They do not see that they were fed Western propaganda 3 years ago, therefore it stands to reason they are feeding you propaganda now.

This was the actual framing 3 years ago:

Russia’s Attack on Nord Stream Pipelines Means Putin Has Truly Weaponized Energy

Why Putin would want to blow up Nord Stream 2, and the advantages it gives him

My own left-turn was simply just watching and remembering what mainstream sources actually said about Iraq/2008 crash/ he EU-Greece crisis throughout the years. How can I believe the same politicians and reporters who keep lying to me?

When propaganda and delusions crash against cold hard reality, the resulting mental wreck is ugly and painful.
