Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

A reminder that as the US continues to threaten countries around the world, fedposting is to be very much avoided (even with qualifiers like "in Minecraft") and comments containing it will be removed.

Image is a map of the Western Sahara, sourced from this article in the Middle East Eye. Much of the information in the preamble also came from there, as well as this article.

November 6th marked the 50th anniversary of Morocco, under King Hassan II, beginning the invasion and occupation of much of the territory of the Western Sahara. Today, approximately 80% of the territory of the Western Sahara is controlled by Morocco, with the Polisario Front - the government of the Sahrawis - controlling the rest, hugging the border of Mauritania. Between them lies one of the longest walls and one of the largest minefields on the planet, of which construction began in the 1980s.

The legitimacy of Morocco's control over the Western Sahara is one of those long-lasting diplomatic issues which ultimately doesn't seem to matter very much in terms of on-the-ground realities, and reveals the eternal uselessness of the United Nations especially in regard to actually helping oppressed people. Up until about 2020, the US and certain other Western countries did not formally recognize Morocco as having sovereignty over the whole territory, but in terms of providing genuine opposition to Morocco, it seems that Algeria is the major player in the region. While American, European, and Moroccan corporations exploit the fisheries and phosphate minerals of the region, protected by their minefields (and claims of merely advancing the cause of renewable energy development, AKA greenwashing), Algeria provides what aid they can to support the displaced Sahrawi people, many of whom have been forced to live in refugee camps.

On October 31st, the US put forward a resolution in the UN Security Council which was adopted (Russia and China abstained) and provided major support to Morocco, urging the Polisario Front to adopt the 2007 "autonomy plan", which would, despite its name, be synonymous with an end to their independence movement. Such a plan was met with much jubilation in Morocco, with King Mohammed VI remarking "From now on, there will be a before and an after October 31, 2025.” Such a date was also the catalyst for the PF intensifying their guerilla struggle against Morocco, as legal avenues for autonomy and basic human rights are running out as the imperialists grow more desperate.

Chinese travellers cancel hundreds of thousands of trips to Japan amid rising tensions

Chinese travellers are estimated to have cancelled hundreds of thousands of tickets to fly to Japan amid reports of suspended visa processing and cultural exchanges as a diplomatic dispute over Japan’s stance on Taiwan continues.

Under pressure from business groups, Japan has sent a senior diplomat to Beijing in an attempt to calm tensions after Japan’s prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, said her country could get involved militarily if China attempted to invade Taiwan. Her comments prompted fury from China’s government, which issued warnings against Chinese travellers and students going to Japan.

At least seven Chinese airlines, including the three state carriers, said they would offer free cancellations to travellers with flights booked to the country. One air travel analyst, Hanming Li, said departure data suggested about 500,000 flight tickets to Japan had been cancelled between 15 and 17 November.

China is the second largest source of tourists to Japan, and its students form the bulk of Japan’s international student cohort. Shares in Japanese retail and travel companies slumped on Monday in response to the measures. Li told the Guardian it was the largest mass cancellation of flights he had seen since early in the Covid pandemic but would probably have little impact on China’s domestic industry.

Go ~~woke~~ fash, go broke, Japan.

[–] xiaohongshu@hexbear.net 61 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (14 children)

If you look at the last election result, it’s very clear that many Japanese dislike Chinese tourists. There is a clear rise in anti-China sentiment for quite some time now, especially since the Japanese yen exchange rate has fallen over the past few years.

But zero-dollar tourism is a real issue, especially for the poorer Southeast Asian countries like Thailand.

Basically, if you have ever joined a Chinese tour group (popular with the older folks), they’ll bring you to Chinese-owned hotels, Chinese-owned restaurants, Chinese-owned shops, Chinese-owned transportation, etc. The entire loop is Chinese owned.

By creating such loop, Chinese tour agencies have been able to drive the prices down (and killing off the other competitors) and they get their profit back by earning commissions when bringing the tourists to Chinese-owned shops. If you’ve ever been in one of those Chinese tour groups, you CANNOT skip the shopping part, the tour guides will literally coerce you (emotional and psychological manipulation, begging, etc.) to buy from those shops, or you won’t be allowed to leave, because that’s where they actually earn their profit. It’s one of the worst parts of those tours lol.

As a result, the local economies of those countries barely benefit from Chinese tourists, and Chinese tour agencies drive the prices down and kill the profitability of local tourism. You can imagine why there are countries who really do not like Chinese tourists flooding their countries.

Trump casually accepts the descriptor as a Fascist in a recent interview with zohran

video w/ timestamp

Reporter: And I want to clarify your answer to Stephen Nelson. He asked about your comment calling the president a fascist.

Mamdani: both President Trump and I have been clear about our positions and our views.

Reporter: Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?

Mamdani: I've spoken about -

Trump: That's okay. You can just say yes. Okay. It's easier. It's easier than explaining it. I don't mind.

[–] Parzivus@hexbear.net 56 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

This is the classic Trump style of agreeing with whoever he talked to most recently. He's having a great time chatting with a fellow NYC boy and doesn't want reporters to bring it back to reality. It's not like he believes anything he says anyway, the "Fascist" comments roll off cause he just sees it as playing to the crowd.

MINT PRESS NEWS got 1984 Orwelled off Instagram

TELEGRAM

🚨Instagram has suspended our MintPress News account.

This is an attack on journalism and the Free Press. MintPress News is a leading 14 year old independent investigative news outlet exposing the architects of the US forever war machine. Our news outlet is run by me, Mnar Adley -- a Palestinian American journalist and a survivor of Israeli occupation and apartheid.

We have an incredible team with the best investigative journalists and truth tellers from Alan MacLeod, Greg Stoker, Lowkey, Robert Inlakesh and Carlos Latuff and many more.

We had close to 300,000 followers on Instagram and we have close to 600,000 on Facebook. We don't report on anything without receipts, citations and sources.

But we know that our journalism is a target by Meta whom we've exposed to have a close relationship with Israeli and US intelligence.

We've uncovered hundreds of veterans from Israel's elite military unit 8200 working inside of Meta and managing content moderation. This is the same military unit that created NSOs Pegasus to spy on activists and was used by Saudi Arabia to track and kill Jamal Kashoggi.

And we can't forget how Meta's Israel policy chief Jordana Cutler takes direct orders from the state of Israel to target, censor and delete pro Palestine content on the platform -- content that exposes Israeli apartheid and it's crimes against humanity.

Meta did not tell us why we were suspended but luckily gave us an option to appeal but I'm not sure if that will give us our page back of about 300,000 followers. We will see what happens next.

Please pressure Meta and Zuck to get our page back .

Sometimes I like to browse reddit-logo to see what divorced from reality looks like. It's literally like browsing those flat earth sites.

America gave Ukraine the best deal possible and the losers are still pretending that Ukraine isn't losing the war. Either A: the war continues and Ukraine loses its sovereignty and becomes a desolate rump state. Or B: Ukraine takes the deal and maybe has a modest and painfully slow recovery. The one shot Ukraine had was pissed away when they listened to that repulsive clown, Johnson, in 2022. Ukraine in 2025 is literally Germany in 1944 desperately trying to negotiate a peace and hold onto their stolen territory while the Soviets are liberating Warsaw and the Allies are in Paris.

Yet redditors are still talking about "holding Russia accountable for war crimes" and crying over recognizing the Donbass and Crimea as if Zelensky is at the gates of Moscow or something. LOL

"Holding Russia accountable" How the fuck do you worthless neckbeards plan to do that without vaporizing your pitiful existence? i-cant

In where are they now news, here's one on Canadian ukrainian nationalist, Chrystia freeland, who was dumped from her position as Canadian federal minister by PM Carney after her attempt at leadership of the ruling liberal party. Her disagreements with Carney seem part ideological, part personal. She seems much more dyed in the wool ukrainian nationalist while he's a bloodless finance type. She's also a notoriously arrogant girl boss, which seemed to suit Trudeau's woke-bae-with-a-majority style but not Carney's iron fisted minority, which in parliamentary terms can't abide dissent in the caucus.

https://johnhelmer.net/fired-from-canadian-cabinet-chrystia-freeland-is-now-a-foreign-mercenary-on-the-ukraine-battlefield/

Since Chrystia Freeland was dismissed from her Canadian Cabinet ministry on September 16, she has become the “Special Representative for the Reconstruction of Ukraine.”

Freeland has no staff for her post, no office, no budget, no travel expenses, and a pay cut of $79,700. The Privy Council Office, reporting to the House of Commons, says it has “searched its financial records and did not find any costs, start-up or otherwise, related to the role of the Special Representative for the Reconstruction of Ukraine.”

Helmer posits that her travel is being funded by Soros rather than the Canadian government, who has been an ally of hers through her career. Her main goal it seems is to lobby for seizure of Russian assets in EU. Should she succeed in that, she would be well positioned to help "administer" that flow of money once she is no longer a member of Canadian parliament.

Not a bad exit plan for her. I bet her and Estonia's kallas get along famously.

critical support to the United States Air Force in its valiant effort to demilitarize the empire by crashing all their planes stonks-down https://archive.ph/Gw7ig

Military aircraft crashes skyrocketed from 2020 to 2024, new data shows

Possible causes include stagnating budgets and increased operations, experts said.

more

Pentagon data shows that deadly and costly military aircraft mishaps skyrocketed 55 percent over the past four years, alarming lawmakers, defense analysts, and aviation safety experts. The number of Class A mishaps—the deadliest and costliest category—per 100,000 flight hours rose from 1.3 in fiscal 2020 to 2.02 in fiscal 2024, according to data provided to Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. Defense One reviewed the data, which Warren received in January after requesting it last year. “This loss of life due to mishaps poses an unacceptable risk to service members, their families, and military readiness,” Warren said in a Wednesday news release. Across 4,280 total mishaps between full budget years 2020 through 2023 and part of 2024, those incidents led to 90 deaths, just shy of 90 aircraft destroyed, and upwards of $9 billion in damages, the data showed. Warren’s office said the rise in deadly mishaps supports a push to include provisions in this year’s defense policy bill asking the Pentagon to share summaries of internal military safety reports for the last three years with Congress.

Safety advocates and defense experts said the alarming trends are accompanied by declining transparency, increased operations, and stagnating budgets. Each service except the Navy saw the rate of Class A mishaps per 100,000 flight hours hit a four-year high in 2024. In the Marines, the rate nearly doubled from 1.33 to 3.91. The Army’s rate rose from 0.76 to 2.02; the Air Force’s edged up from 1.72 to 1.9; and the Navy’s went from 1.12 and 1.76 after peaking at 1.98 in 2022. A Pentagon official, responding to those figures being released by Warren’s office, said in an emailed statement that the Defense Department's safety oversight council regularly reviews incidents to “reduce safety risks” to the services. "We underscore the importance of safety and readiness at every level of the Department, ensuring that we invest in and adopt leading safety practices and foster a strong culture of safety throughout the organization,” the official said. The Pentagon data included the Class A mishap rates of its 10 most-used aircraft. The list was topped by the H-60 helicopter, which was involved in 23 total incidents per four years worth of flight hours. It was followed by the F-18 fighter jet and C-17 transport plane, both with 21 total incidents per four years worth of flight hours.

More than one-fifth of the 90 deaths mentioned in the Pentagon report occurred in variants of the V-22 Osprey, which has seen four crashes resulting in 20 servicemember deaths since 2022. One widow who lost a loved one in a 2022 crash said the alarming trend of deadly incidents is made worse by a lack of transparency. Many survivors are still waiting on findings in Naval Air Systems Command and Government Accountability investigations probing the tiltrotor aircraft. “The trends we’re seeing remain incredibly concerning, and answers aren’t only owed to the families whose loved ones are represented in these numbers. They’re owed to the service members still flying in these aircraft and to their loved ones,” the widow said. “We deserve complete answers and real accountability. We still don’t have either.”

Some services, such as the Air Force, have taken public-facing measures addressing the alarming rise in deadly mishaps. Before he retired as Air Force chief of staff earlier this year, then-Gen. David Allvin announced a safety and standards campaign in January, stating in a video the service lost 47 airmen and $1.5 billion in weapons due to preventable incidents. His replacement, Gen. David Wilsbach, told Congress during his confirmation hearing, and airmen in a letter this month, that his priority is to fix aging aircraft and increase readiness. J.F. Joseph, a retired Marine Corps pilot who is an aviation consultant and expert witness, said reversing the trends will require pilots to get enough flight hours. That involves consistently funding and staffing maintenance efforts so aviators can get more experience. “The aircraft have to be supported by the maintainers and they have to have the parts, the components, to maintain those aircraft properly,” Joseph said. “If you don’t staff these aircraft squadrons properly with maintainers, even if you have the parts sitting on the shelf, you can’t fix the airplanes. The cost of doing aviation safely is expensive, it simply is. It’s even more expensive when you’re doing it properly, but it’s a lot more expensive when you’re not.”

This year alone, the Navy lost four F/A-18Fs, according to Warren’s office, and the deadliest mishap in recent aviation history took place near Washington, D.C., in January when an Army Black Hawk helicopter collided in midair with a commercial airliner, killing all 67 aboard the two aircraft. Mackenzie Eaglen, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, said prior administrations’ defense budgets “did not keep pace with inflation while the military op-tempo was high,” adding that several services have had to take drastic measures to keep aircraft usable–such as the Air Force resurrecting retired B-1 Lancer bombers and returning them to service. “Shockingly, military aviation units in separate branches in the armed services are currently cannibalizing aircraft parts to get planes flying,” Eaglen said. “The decade-long budget control act, followed by sequestration, followed by budgets that did not keep pace with generational record-high inflation mean there is a lot of time, work, and money needed to reverse these trends.” In a Tuesday letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Warren’s office is now asking for Class A-mishap data for the rest of 2024 and 2025 as well as broader information on “mishaps, fatalities, destroyed aircraft, and estimated costs across each service for each aircraft” in the past five years. The senator asked for the Pentagon to provide the information no later than Dec. 2. “In the face of increasing rates of costly and deadly aviation mishaps, it is critical that Congress and DoD take all necessary action to address this problem,” Warren wrote.

New Russia-Ukraine peace terms just dropped.

This one includes partial demilitarization of Ukraine, which is certainly closer to what Russia requires. In particular, it would force Ukraine to halve the size of their military.

Unless there are some nuances, Russia would still be naive to agree to this, because Ukraine can just demobilize the conscripts being held in reserve who are doing nothing right now anyway. In fact, I wonder if that was the whole reason Ukraine was so aggressive with conscription in the first place. Just artificially inflate the size of their military on paper so they come out of a bad peace deal mostly unscathed.

Ukraine will build new defensive lines and NATO will ramp up military production and purchases in the intervening years to prepare for round 2.

Roman Kostenko says the number of soldiers who have gone AWOL or deserted will soon be equal to the number of soldiers in the army and that most of them go AWOL from the training centers. The years-long private discussions focused on using Rothschild as a vehicle to create a donor-advised venture capital fund intended to fund the growth of "offensive cyber" startups linked to Israeli intelligence. Epstein pushed forward the plan to build a global surveillance empire with former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak by leveraging his own close personal ties to Ariane de Rothschild, now CEO of the firm.

Rothschild Group also has an ongoing historic relationship with the state of Israel through a tax-exempt foundation that manages the Israeli locality of Caesarea, over which Epstein and Barak attempted to help resolve a dispute with the Israeli government.

A whole bunch of US military aircraft decided to turn on their transponders all at once while operating off of the coast of Venezuela, including fighter jets and reconnaissance aircraft. Not all aircraft operating have turned on their transponders, but quite a few. B-52H Stratofortress bombers are suspected to be operating with transponders off.

The aircraft with the "LION" and "FELIX" callsigns are fighter jets, indicated ground speed of between 620-640 knots.

These operations have been happening for quite some time now, though the US has a lot more fighter jets close by in recent days with the arrival of the USS Gerald R Ford aircraft carrier.

Update: the aircraft are showing up as F/A-18E/F Super Hornets from the USS Gerald R Ford aircraft carrier now. A B-52H Stratofortress bomber showed up off of the coast of Suriname.

🟢 NEW: Hamas Says It Reached Out to China, Russia, and Other UNSC Members

Hamas official Osama Hamdan confirmed in an interview with Al Jazeera Mubasher that the movement had been in direct contact with China, Russia, and “most Security Council members” as part of a diplomatic push to block the U.S. proposal for an international force in Gaza.

He said Hamas and other factions sent detailed memoranda warning that the plan would “impose guardianship” on Gaza, sideline Palestinian institutions, and fail to protect civilians from renewed Israeli attacks. Hamdan added that the outreach also included the Arab and Islamic blocs, urging them to back an alternative framework grounded in Palestinian sovereignty and civilian protection.

this information makes the absolutely inaction at the proposal even more pathetic

After repeated massacres of civilians in Gaza, resistance factions are putting out stronger statements hinting at the collapse of the ceasefire if Israel’s violations continue.

“A leading source in Hamas to Al Jazeera:

Hamas informed mediators during calls of its anger regarding the continuation of "israel's" aggression despite its and the factions' commitment to the agreement.

Hamas demanded that mediators intervene immediately to compel "israel" to adhere to the agreement and prevent its collapse, as desired by the occupation.

We informed the mediators during calls of our anger regarding the continuation of the aggression despite our and the factions' commitment to the agreement.

We demanded that the mediators intervene immediately to compel "israel" to adhere to the agreement.

We informed the mediators of the need for immediate intervention to prevent the collapse of the agreement as desired by the occupation.”

“ Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine:

We will not accept the continuation of the reality imposed by force and the false pretexts of the occupation, and the American administration is a partner in these crimes and lies.

The targeting by the occupation with widespread raids on Gaza, Deir al-Balah, and Nuseirat, which resulted in dozens of martyrs and injuries, constitutes a serious and new violation of the ceasefire understandings and confirms the continuation of the policy of imposing reality by force.

The repeated targeting of civilians despite the truce being in effect clearly reveals that the occupation is using the ceasefire agreement as a cover to commit its crimes, and continues to create fabricated and contrived pretexts to justify its aggressions and impose new equations on the ground, thereby keeping the Gaza Strip in a state of continuous and permanent escalation.

This criminal attack comes in the context of a systematic policy aimed at undermining and completely overturning the ceasefire agreement, by expanding the aggression and opening additional targeting paths to drag the situation toward explosion.

The American administration is a partner in these crimes and lies, by providing political, diplomatic cover and continuous support for the occupation, which deepens the crisis and legitimizes the targeting of civilians under false pretexts.

The Front calls on the mediators and guarantors to bear their responsibilities and adopt a firm stance that puts a final stop to the occupation’s continuous violations and prevents their recurrence. It clearly stresses that our people will never accept the continuation of this reality imposed by force, nor the reproduction of the occupation's flimsy pretexts packaged in exposed false claims.

Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Central Information Department November 22, 2025”

Zelensky records a statement responding to the US, saying that the Ukrainian people will have to choose between losing their dignity (and accepting Trump's deal) or losing their main ally in the war. Zelensky also gives Europeans a piece of his mind, saying that Ukraine is the shield that protects their good life. He also says he will present counterproposals to the US so that Ukraine is not humiliated.

Vibe report: after being bombarded with anti-Japan content on my social media feed for an entire week, there has been a significant drop over the past 48 hours. This morning, I saw only one item while browsing my feed. I think we’re in the de-escalation phase.

Like the Pelosi incident, it’s not worth starting a war over such spats. The militarization on both sides, I believe, will continue, simply because of the economic downturn forcing investment into the defense industry, but I don’t think a hot war is around the corner (famous last words here lol).

Another viewpoint is that the propaganda wing is almost always more nationalistic in character than the lib leadership, and orders from the top can take a few days to trickle down.

Social Democrats Decimated in Danish Local Elections, Loses Control Over Copenhagen

Denmark’s local elections on November 18 dealt a crushing blow to the Social Democrats and the two other parties in the ruling right-wing regime, revealing widespread voter discontent with the Social Democrats’ increasingly authoritarian line. The Social Democrats’ vote share collapsed by 5.2 percentage points nationally, with their count of mayors plummeting from 44 to just 26—marking the party’s worst local performance in generations.

Nowhere was the upheaval more visible than in Copenhagen. After 122 uninterrupted years of Social Democrat hegemony, the capital will be governed by a progressive green coalition led by the Socialist People’s Party’s Sisse Marie Welling.

The loss of Copenhagen, a city the Social Democrats have controlled without interruption since 1903, represents a major humilation for the Social Democrats. For Danish strongwoman leader Mette Frederiksen, the defeat carries personal humiliation. She had personally hand-picked Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil, a longtime personal friend with whom she co-owns a summer house and a former minister in her government, as the party's chosen candidate for lord mayor.

Rosenkrantz-Theil's campaign was lavishly funded, with backing from Jeudan, a large real estate developer whose central Copenhagen storefronts were blanketed with oversized posters of Rosenkrantz-Theil during the campaign.

Yet despite the financial advantages and establishment backing, Rosenkrantz-Theil's message, which included building more parking lots in the already congested city center, failed to resonate with voters grappling with a severe housing crisis, the result of decades of failed neoliberal housing policy under Social Democrat control.

The post-election negotiations in Copenhagen highlighted the Social Democrats’ political isolation. All parties except the Social Democrats and the small Independent Greens joined the new governing coalition, united by a common goal of ending Social Democratic control. Rosenkrantz-Theil threw her toys out of the pram and left the coalition talks after less than 30 minutes when it became clear she would not become lord mayor, later calling the new coalition "terrible for Copenhagen."

The Social Democrats will now be relegated to the sixth mayoral position in the city's seven-member magistrate system.

Line Barfod of the Red-Green Alliance, whose party won the largest share of the vote but conceded the leadership to the Socialist People's Party as part of the coalition agreement, called the result "amazing" and said Copenhagen was "setting a new direction."

The Social Democratic collapse extended far beyond the capital. Municipalities like Næstved and Gladsaxe elected non-Social Democratic mayors for the first time in over a century. On the islands of Læsø and Fanø, the party failed to win even a single council seat.

In Gladsaxe, outgoing Social Democrat mayor Trine Græse vented her frustrations on Facebook after losing to the Socialist People’s Party’s Serdal Benli, claiming she had an agreement to keep the job and complaining that the new mayor was someone “you can’t make a deal with.”

While urban voters shifted left, rural areas showed increased support for right-wing and far-right parties. The newly formed fascist Denmark Democrats won 4.7 percent of the national vote and captured the mayoralty in the traditional Liberal Party stronghold of Ringkøbing-Skjern. The fascist Danish People’s Party gained 1.8 percentage points, and the Conservative People’s Party and the far-right libertarian Liberal Alliance also posted gains.

Even as the Social Democrats hemorrhaged support, all three parties in the Nordic hermit kingdom's right-wing regime suffered losses, exposing the lack of public support for the right-wing centrist project that was formed between Social Democrats, the Liberal Party and the Moderate Party following the 2022 general elections. The arrangement, marketed as a unity government transcending the left-right divide, simply consolidated power among political and media elites who share more with each other than with ordinary Danes pressed by soaring living costs and deteriorating public services.

The Liberal Party dropped 3.3 points to 17.9 percent, though backroom dealing at coalition talks allowed them to increase their number of mayoral posts, surpassing the Social Democrats.

The Moderate Party, contesting its first local election, endured a catastrophic showing. Winning just 1.3 percent of the vote and securing seats in only five councils, the party was exposed as having virtually no organic support beyond its founder, former Liberal Party chairman Lars Løkke Rasmussen. Without Rasmussen on the ballot, the party’s paper-thin base collapsed entirely. It resembles less a political movement than a personal support structure allowing Løkke to maintain his grip on power. The party has also been battered by scandals, including Rasmussen being caught on tape attempting to bribe an MP to resign, feeding the widespread perception of corruption and self-dealing associated with the party.

The Socialist People’s Party emerged as one of the night’s major winners, increasing its mayoral count from two to five and further consolidating its urban strength. The small green pro-democracy opposition party The Alternative suffered a slight setback, while the pro-democracy opposition Red-Green Alliance saw stagnation.

The small pro-democracy opposition party Independent Greens won a seat on Copenhagen’s city council despite enduring a sustained campaign of vilification from establishment Zionist forces. Running as part of a pro-democracy alliance with the Communist Party of Denmark and the Communist Party, the Independent Greens, who represent many ethnic minority voters, faced coordinated attacks from Zionist establishment figures over their vocal support for Palestinian rights.

Deranged Social Democratic Zionists compared them simultaneously to neo-Nazis and communists, hysterical, mutually contradictory smears that revealed more about the desperation of the attackers than about the Independent Greens’ actual platform.

Danish leader Mette Frederiksen’s political disconnect from ordinary voters was on full display in a viral TikTok interview shortly before the election. Asked to rank policy priorities, she placed statutory age limits for social media above lowering food prices or housing costs, improving public transport, or raising nurses’ salaries. Only two issues ranked higher: imposing further restrictions on refugees and immigrants, and massively expanding military spending to above Cold War levels—priorities that resonate little with voters struggling to survive.

Danish leader Mette Frederiksen acknowledged the electoral rout on election night, admitting the decline was worse than expected, yet offered no genuine accountability. Instead she blamed rising food prices and even “people coming from outside”—another dog whistle meant to stir racist paranoia that failed to halt the party’s collapse.

The Social Democrats now face a crisis with no clear path forward. Urban voters are abandoning the party over its embrace of far-right politics; rural voters are drifting toward even more extreme right-wing forces. The strategy of severing ties to the center-left and clinging to right-wing coalition partners has backfired, liberating former allies from their loyalty and allowing them to exclude the Social Democrats from local power-sharing arrangements altogether.

Criticism of Frederiksen is now surfacing more openly. Defeated Social Democrats across the country point to her regime as a central reason for their downfall. As long as she retains control of the state apparatus, an internal coup remains unlikely but serious questions now loom over her leadership and the party’s future after Frederiksen.

The fledgling nation now moves toward next year’s promised general election with an emboldened far right, a more hopeful center-left, and a right wing and a Social Democratic Party in profound crisis.

I guess Japan is on the "something is happening" watchlist. The YEN is currently trading at a 157 ratio vs USD. After a bad Q3 (-1.8%), the central bank is keeping rates low to try and stimulate the economy. And cancerous currency traders are using that to make free money. The government is thinking about a big stimulus, but that leaves the YEN even worse off. And the stimulus probably wouldn't even help much, since that is mostly just money that big corporations would use to fund whatever investments they are already making no matter what and then rewarding their shareholders with the rest. Japan's one option would be selling off their massive holdings of US debt, but since they are occupied by the US government, the US isn't allowing them to do that.

You know, I don't even know how someone would fix the current situation, even assuming that the smartest possible leftist comes into power with a big mandate.
