Well. Here it is. The point where I’ve become old enough that I do not understand the youths and their pop culture. Like fully don’t get it.

Looks like a sonic fox? What's the confusion? Furries aren't anything new. And SonicFox is well known for things like Mortal Combat (I say as someone who has never paid any attention to competitive fighting games and didn't realize SonicFox was also a furry or NB).
My confusion is why this person has been chosen to represent sports sneakers.
SonicFox is pretty famous in the relatively large niche that is the fighting game community.
