The mafia has always been used by fascists and capitalists to attack socialists and communists. In Indonesia, for instance, the mob there killed communists on behalf of fascist militias and the American-backed fascist state. If you even wanted to unionize you'd be killed by the mafia who was paid by fascists.
same shit happened in fascist Italy and post WW2 Italy. The mob always works with the government against communists.
