CBP is actually even worse than ICE. They're a lot more militarized. That Chicago apartment building that was raided with an Apache helicopter, with little kids being put into handcuffs, that was actually CBP.
CBP's operation zone is ridiculous too. They're "border patrol" but they can work deep into the country.
They are limited to 100 miles from the border, but "the border" counts the shoreline, so in reality 2/3 of the population is in that zone.
I've heard that courts have ruled that airports count as "the border" too. So anywhere within 100 miles of an airport. So basically anywhere in the country.
You heard incorrectly. Every source I've seen did not include airports.
They work in international airports though. They literally go through your luggage when you enter the country that way. I bet they aren’t restricted to the customs counter.
Right, but that doesn't mean there's a "100-mile no-rights border zone" around the airport.
Regardless of what the courts say, there are no rights-free zones in the US, only zones where inalienable rights are being unlawfully denied.
At least until they find a lawsuit that SCOTUS can add it.
Don't they also count international airports as "the border?" Which changes that number to something like 99.9% of the population.
Yes yes it does
That doesn't include airports which add any major city not in that red line.
Except the Great Lakes are mostly part of America. Lake Michigan is completely inside The United States, so Illinois is nowhere near the Canadian border.
Chicago isn’t a border city, it’s a coastal city.
O’Hare is a national hub. Meaning it’s an entry point to the US, so technically a “border”.
Every international airport is considered a border. That covers 98% of the country.
They can go anywhere, 100 miles is just where the supreme court gave them automatic probable cause that anybody in that distance is presumed crossing the border and can be randomly searched without a warrant. Outside of that they just have to remember to lie in court like normal cops.
now do all of the major rivers connected to the ocean
