Hinduism is easily the most destructive religion on Earth right now, the pollution generated from rituals and festivals is unimaginable. But yeah you're right, India CAN'T do anything about pollution without communism. The GDP/pollution in India is imo the biggest piece of "capitalism sucks, communism rules" evidence there is. Both countries were at similar levels of development relatively recently, hell India might have even been better off briefly post- WWII (I don't know this, I just mean i could believe that state of affairs) and yet it's China that's made impossibly huge gains against poverty, pollution, etc., while India continues to languish
