Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

A clarinet player was arrested after playing her instrument to the tune of the “Ghostbusters” theme song outside of a Portland ICE facility, which has recently become a site of daily clashes between federal agents and demonstrators.

The USA got some very special freedom, but at least their guns will protect them from overreaching state actors.

While it is of course frightening as fuck i really laugh that the U.S. shows what everybody knows. All these weapons are for show and a false sense of security. And of course daily shootings. Fighting oppression? Never.

There's a cost-benefit calculation to be done. If you're the only armed dissident, it's basically suicide by cop. There's a critical mass necessary to mount an offensive.

Also, a good chunk of the 2A zealots are cool with what's happening. They don't feel oppressed.

The ones being oppressed are the ones who generally didn't like the weapons. I know, I was one of them.

[–] lowleekun@ani.social 12 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I kind of understand that it feels bad to own weapons when you oppose them. I doubt fascism will lay down peacefully but i wish you guys luck.

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Thanks. To be fair, aside from the pacifism if you look at my other interests and hobbies I should be a gun guy, so it's been a begrudgingly pleasant transition.

I believe many leftists will use the time it is still possible to get a gun. I know i would even though i hate that shit. As german i don't really have that option, so i really don't look forward to our own Gestapo being errected in 4 years from now (neo-nazis are about to take power).

Sport shooting looks like it could be a valid workaround, plus actually sport shooting is great training. Things are bad here but I can't say I envy Germany right now.

Fight the AfD my internet person! I'm fighting the PVV here. We can still win.

I might sound like a pessimist sometimes but i do believe that fascism will lose again💪

See, the problem here is you're lumping all of the US in one group, while conveniently ignoring that half of this group is against the use of firearms and is for gun control, and the people who have wet dreams about mowing down "the gays" are the biggest owners of said guns.

[–] lowleekun@ani.social 2 points 5 months ago

No no. There are the two groups or even many more arguably. But whether you like or own arms or not there are armed goons kidnapping people from the streets in broad daylight no one is shooting these goons while the maian argument for weapons is being able to resist goverment....

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

If there was planned violent opposition and you knew about it, would you let the world know before you were ready?

No. Because fucking OPSEC is a thing. Plus we haven't even started real civil disobedience yet, and that's required before people can get angry enough to start shooting.

You're being an instigator whether you realize it or not.

[–] lowleekun@ani.social 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I would love to instigate people to resist fascism.

Planned violent opposition? I look forward to it, because right now i only see fascism out of the U.S. and a few and rare noble people resisting non violently (which i celebrate, love these people). Inspiring and amazing. Maybe if enough people would join no violence would be needed. I guess we won't find out tho.
