Remember, kids, if you say anything spicy, make sure to say it either offline to your friends, or anonymously online.
The number of people willing to put their faces and names and basically addresses online boggles my mind and always has.
so wild to me how the common advice was to never reveal personal details about yourself on the internet, then facebook came along and suddenly everyone was posting their face, full name, home town, education history, etc online for free and it was totally fine for some reason
Yeah as someone around for the early days of the internet that shit gave me whiplash. It didn't start with facebook though, MySpace was the real patient zero.
At least MySpace had the excuse/gimmick of promoting bands and indie artists and whatnot, it may have been the catalyst behind the modern state of social media, but it was definitely a different beast back in it's hayday compared to what social media became post MySpace craze. (Also back when the internet/websites in general were just more fun in general and things sites/home pages could be personalised if you knew some basic CSS)
Anyone who posts a picture or video where the street they live on can be seen is basically posting their address. Just watch some top geoguessr players, those motherfuckers will find the exact house in 12 seconds flat.
When I was young they told us to never use our real names online
Now it's a requirement for a lot of things and creating Facebook accounts is probably taught in kindergarten
