It was super common among guys my age growing up in the 90's into the 2000's. And yeah it's lowkey just admitting you're not really into women much afterall.
"straight sex and heterosexuality is basically gay" is one of the all time funniest cultural signifiers though. in the year 2000, it would seem that the only straight thing for men was exclusively hanging with/dating/fucking men

I have heard a take criticizing vulvas as unsexy and complaining about why porn zooms in on them when he wants to see the whole person. But this was from a very gay friend who knew he was gay and did not find vulvas sexy trying to express his confusion about what I found sexy about vulvas.
I'm mostly straight and I think this too. genuinely nothing aesthetically sexy about vulvas in isolation imo.
