Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

Must be their attempt to detain U.S. citizens without trial or due process, if not now, in the future. Preventive prosecution.

With the scotus forbidding Nationwide injunctions there is nothing to stop the administration rounding up Americans and sending them to camps.

That is what that decision was made for. The Supreme Court canceled a former co-equal branch of government from being able to stop an executive branch fully intent on betraying the Republic in every way.

Scotus needs to resign in disgrace for traitorism, and all federalist society hacks need be sidelined. This dumster fire needs to burn out first. Fucking hack traitor cock scum all, by every right [redacted.]

If you're still around in 5 years, I'll make a 50 dollar bet that the next blue-flavored one will do nothing but symbolic gestures and maybe a concession or two at most to roll any of this back and continue the immigration policy, economic policy and placate fundamentalist nonsense while China blows us apart in every metric. Maybe shitlibs could actually do something about their supposed grievances with Taiwan or Ukraine if they didn't gargle the propaganda fed to them about how great capitalism is and western exceptionalism.

There was nothing before. Something...guant...Guantanamo?

The federal judiciary was to stop them before, doing anything systematically it would get challenged and then shut down nationwide.

Now they can only provide specific relief to the person that actually manages to get their suit heard. Or they could try to get everyone that is now disappeared by the federal government or that may be disappeared by the federal government soon to join a class action lawsuit.

That was a huge judicial decision that is not recognized as such by our preening self important influencers and media. But even the better ones do not get it even as they continue to trust establishment figures.

Not in Guantanamo. Supreme Court actually approved it! Not in Afghanistan. Not in Iraq. Not in Gaza, more recently under the last admin and current. It didn't stop the Patriot Act. It didn't stop the extensive drone-strikes under Obama which the record was only broke by our recent President. It didn't get us anything either, as even with a court and a supermajority Dems still decided to "compromise" on a dysfunctional healthcare act while chiding us that it is better than nothing. What point are you trying to make here? "pretty cheap", using your own words.

Or they could try to get everyone that is now disappeared by the federal government

There was a very long period of time where that happened here in America on suspected communists, socialists, etc that moved onto Islamic terror threats shortly after 9/11. Or we could talk about the throes and throes of people disappeared in the vast swathes of nations America intervened, invaded or subjugated since the 1800s.

Essentially, what I am going to communicate to you in very simple terms is that we as communists never have believed in a capitalist nation that you have any rights at any point. All of your rights could be easily pushed aside, subsumed or "rewritten" by the will of the ruling class and have been only stumbled, temporarily, by organized labor. That was only one step.
