Anyone who thinks games were peak in 2010 is unsalvageable
Its true the best games were made in the 90s
ah the era when genres were invented
no but you could slot a lot of those games into a modern skin with an UI that actually makes sense and they'd be arguably better than a lot of the slop they give us nowadays
There were like one or two good years for AAA games clustered closeish before mtx models got too bad. Weve had good years before and since. Arguably more common in the early 00's.
Much as I love the ps2/xbox/gcm era, more good and great games are made now than in any era previous. the biggest problem with the industry is discoverability and having the time to actually play them as an adult.
like the last new game I played is Void Stranger, easily one of the best games I've ever played but god I was playing it for like a month and I still haven't seen everything.
it's more that mobile games and "fifa ultimate team" hadn't metastasized the rest of games publishing yet. shit they're selling people today makes horse armor seem reasonable
I think it was peak... but for indie games (right towards the end of Flash, god bless its security-flawed soul). The Decade of the Indie Games gave us Minecraft, Castle Crashers, VVVVVV, Fez, Undertale and Celeste to name a few.
