Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Run for president Jon. Do it.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

A Jew? Good luck with that.

[–] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 29 points 3 days ago (5 children)

You guys need to stop electing celebrities ffs

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 42 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You need to understand politics better at a fundamental level. Lawyers do not make winning modern politicians. Theater majors do. Charismatic business majors do.

Jon just happens to also know shit from decades of calling out corruption and pushing for change.

It's not sustainable to just run politicians because their entertainment background makes them electable. Sometimes they need to make difficult decisions. It's gotta stop some time

Maybe I would have supported Stewart running in 2024 against Trump, particularly with hindsight advantage. Fight fire with fire.

Of course I would also vote Stewart over any modern Republican, because those guys can do some damage

But with Trump not running in 2028, I don't see a similar celebrity on the Republican ticket. I'm still dealing with a bad hangover from Kamala Harris 2024, but I would rather see her in office and making those tough decisions than Stewart, because she has the experience doing so.

with Trump not running in 2028

He's already trampled several constitution articles and amendments, why do you think the 22nd would stop him? Literally who would enforce it?

Supreme Court: "We'll address this after January 2029."

Trying to keep some semblance of normalcy in the assumptions I make. Some people would find it laughable that an honest election would happen.

[–] bear@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

When was the last honest election?

Are we counting his shadow presidency? /s

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Really it doesn't matter who is president they well not know everything. A good leader would surround themselves with knowledgable people and take their advice.

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

We need President Camacho.

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago

It has been this way since the pyramids and TV made it more intense.

Stewart Klepper 2028

You're not wrong, but I don't see a lot of better options on the table and the guy at the very least understands politics and seems to be resistant to being owned.

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 13 points 3 days ago

At least John has a history of fighting to make Congress do the right thing. He has far more relevant political experience than Trump.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

Unfortunately, we have* a vibes based democracy.

(*Well, had, idk if a 2028 election would even exist)

Yeah I don't know the celebrity part is the biggest problem

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If we're picking celebrities to run, I nominate Tom Morello.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Luigi Mangione.
(Even if he's guilty then he's still done less criminally evil shit when compared to the orange traitor)

[–] RoidingOldMan@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Why not Kimmel or Colbert? They seem like they'll be available.

[–] yeahiknow3@lemmings.world 23 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Jon as president Colbert as vice president.

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And John Oliver as Chief of Staff

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

And Nathan Fielder for our transportation secretary

Which Colbert, though? Colbert Report Colbert or Late Show Colbert?

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 3 days ago

Jon has experience getting legislation passed. Colbert as well to a lesser extent. Jon has been asked before and mentioned this recently as well.
