I'm new to Lemmy, and this is my first time trying a video. If there's a better way to do it let me know.

Both sites are optimized for streaming video, unlike Lemmy. It just comes down to user preference.

TankieTube is more niche, because it was created for leftists. It's also more social media oriented, because PeerTube is modeled after YouTube; you can create publicly browseable channels, and like, comment, subscribe, etc.

Practical differences

Feature Catbox TankieTube
Upload size limit 200 MB 50 GB (currently)
Pornography? Yes^1 No
Pirated content? No^1 Yes^[I only remove content if I receive a formal complaint from an authorized legal representative of the respective copyright owner (historically very rare)]

Disclaimer: I'm obviously biased because I own the website

I didn't know it was made by somebody local that's cool!

The main difference seems to be TankieTube is more of a YouTube replacement and Catbox is more of a Streamable replacement for temporary/disposable videos.

Yeah, that's a succinct way to put it
