I doubt Chomsky would be principled enough to go to jail to oppose an American war.

I too have some critique of chomsky, but to be fair opposing american wars is all he did all his live and while he didn't go to jail, he was arrested for it multiple times.
Chomsky was arrested in 1967 at a protest against the Vietnam War, and this was at the Pentagon itself. He was also one of the names on Nixon's enemies list. Also he was one of the co-conspirators in the "Boston five trial" aka the Spock draft resistance trial.
