I bought Cyberpunk on sale and waited some time to play it. I played it about halfway through earlier this year and stopped. I picked up again about a week ago. I realized I wasn't really doing my build correctly and respec'd for katana Samurai. Finished the game. I started a new run and doing a stealth pistol build. Katana was more fun. Right now it plays more like an easymode MGS.
This game has tremendous shortcomings but somehow I actually felt bad saying goodbye to Night City at the end of my first run. It kind of reminds me of how I used to be really into Fallout 3 and New Vegas, both of which also had their share of shortcomings. Most of the game is procedural side gigs but it kind of works. I did almost all of the fixer missions before picking up the main story this time, which makes the game feel better paced. V loses their self in their work after Jackie's death and really builds a reputation before taking on 'Saka again. This makes the grieving of Jackie fit better and gives a reason for Rogue to take them serious.
I didn't really like Johnny on the first round. I'm trying to make him and V friends this time. I'm not sure I really like the character. I get the point is for him to be obnoxious and bad in some things but ultimately a martyr for the good fight. I just don't feel like it was executed well through his dialog and your available choices.
There was one character that really resonated with me, even more than V. They had an infectious optimism that contrasted well with the bummer setting and showed empathy in a world of cynical people. They were, perhaps, the most human of all.
Silverhand might be a political adventurist that didn't care at all about the means of achieving his goals and can occasionally be an asshole, but between him and V he's usually much closer to the truth. It's too often that he's spitting straight up fire about mega corporations and capitalism and then V completely libs out on him telling him he's extreme
I love that game. Haven't played it since the big update with the DLC, though, since I know it means I'll need to start a new file to get used to all the new systems.
The DLC is the best the game gets, so you should give it another go!
I'm conflicted with the DLC, I felt like it really lacked any satisfying ending

since you either become full CIA or you end up getting betrayed by both. I personally got the ending where you send Songbird to the moon and she never talks to you again except a little gift you receive after a while
To be fair though, I haven't gotten to the ending you unlock after the DLC, so maybe that closure to the DLC storyline could be in that ending, don't spoil me if so
All around though it's an interesting premise and characters, and there's some banger quotes by Silverhand
The ending hurts, but it fits the theme. I really liked the missions and environment the most, really.
Had it on my drive for like a year and a half now, sort of waiting for the right moment to lose myself in it because I have a feeling thats how it'll go.
