@ruford1976

It is best to use the real title and add the detail:

Dalit woman raped, filmed, forced to eat beef by two Muslim men in Uttar Pradesh, after being lured by friend

Sure. I didn’t mean to cause offence, it just reads with a different context.

One way to write it could be:

Woman is drugged, raped, and filmed after being in tricked my her friend.

I also removed the Hindu as I don’t think it’s relevant to the story, although it may be relevant where you are.

[-] Supervivens@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago

The Hindu part is relevant as they explicitly forced her to eat beef

[-] FredericChopin_@feddit.uk 5 points 1 year ago

You’re right. Going back I even missed the beef in my refactor. Haha. It’s been a long day.

Being Hindu is relevant because Hindus believe cows are sacred. They believe that in the cycle of reincarnation, cows are the lowest form of creature that you can be reincarnated into. So taking care of cows is seen as a holy act, the same way taking care of the homeless or stray animals could be considered noble and selfless. Lots of their religious imagery and stories also involves butter and cream. Eating beef is taboo, and many Hindus take it a step farther and are fully vegetarian.

So with context, it’s sort of like forcing a Hasidic Jew to eat pork; It serves no purpose other than to humiliate them and denigrate their religion.

Your right.

Looking back at my refactor I even missed the beef completely. It’s been a long day.

Weird, with India's caste system, I wouldn't think them to value those who are 'reincarnated' into a lower status in life.

It's my understanding that Indians believe those of a lower caste did bad things in their previous life.

Not really, it's more complex than that, to quote an eminent Hindu theologian:

Might want to spell check now.

[-] FredericChopin_@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago

That’s why I have an editor and also I’m not a writer because I suck at writing 😔

"'Friend' helps drug, film being gang raped, and force a Hindu woman to consume beef" but I would change the order to go from least to worst, whatever you decide that to be.
