People losing jobs to automation should be a good thing. It should be a sign of progress and healthy advancement towards better living conditions and longer happier lives. It should be a good thing.
Should be.
But literally never has.
Is bests should every time.
Idk, manually hand carving letters for printing presses, people aligning every word, every space, every sentence on the press to print a single page don’t seem like good jobs to me.
They are better jobs than not having a job at all and living in culverts. Or, you know, dying of starvation.
See, that's the problem when all these geniuses "disrupt" things. They tout all the great things that could be accomplished but forget about the people already here.
Ask anybody who was doing that thing for presses you imagined if they'd prefer that job to starvation.
In my country I can survive without a job no problem. It’s not a good life, but it would be possible to live a whole life without ever working.
I don’t know if any person in my country died of starvation in the last 50 years. That’s definitely a third world country’s problem.
It all depends on the pay.
We should also have UBI and Healthcare.
they probably realized around '22-23 that AI was costing them too much money, and investors will be asking for returns very soon, so they started the massive layoffs as a result.
There is something that makes me feel uneasy when I think that ideas, understanding and creativity can be automatically generated by an unconscious system.
Except none of it can by any system that is available now nor any system that is even on the charts for being plausibly available within the lifetime of anybody currently born.
