Nate "Eric Adams is the Future" Silver joins the fray, this thing must be much worse than we can possibly imagine.

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago

Or much better. Maybe we don't have to hear from Nate bronze ever again if he's on the list

Nate Bronze still doesn't seem to understand that his numbers consistently fail to capture Trump's base. I'm sure the numbers he's seeing make him think people aren't interested, but that's because the numbers fail to capture the Q-portion of the US.

Nate is paid not to understand this

I'm not so sure. Presumably the people who pay him actually want to beat Trump, they really want Nate to give them the secret special data they need to win.

The problem is that neither they nor Nate can examine their ideological priors (i.e. Democrats are good, neoliberalism is good, empire is good, this is the Greatest Time To Be Alive, etc). Those are off limits. So, they tinker around the edges to find the secret to winning without giving up on the very things that make them lose.

But, not entirely intentional. They're not paid to lose, they're paid by losers who can't understand (and who don't want to understand) why they keep losing to their right flank.

"want to beat Trump" doubt

The Democratic system benefits from Americans experiencing trump and becoming generally more radicalized towards the right because their political goals get to be more "radically opposed" without having to do any changes. Trump wins, middle-of-the-road Dems get to do more liberalism and maintain the fear that further right will win again to solicit money.

Yeah but now Trump is talking about sending the DOJ after Obama. This isn't the same friendly bipartisan consensus anymore, I think there's real partisanship on the horizon.

Admittedly, this is new, so it probably hasn't sunk in yet.

This isn't new at all? He did the same thing about Hillary and said the same shit last time. Pretty sure the same "we can never work together again" was said during Reagan and then immediately centrism ruled again further right than ever before

Trump violating the bipartisan agreement to never prosecute a former president is a Big Deal. If he actually does (it could be all talk, but he needs to make the Epstein stuff go away somehow) he'll be the first in history.

Also I'm skeptical that Democrats' donors are happy to throw their money away on losers. The people who gave Kamala Harris a billion almost certainly wanted her to win, which is why she's being punished and forced out of the California governor's race. Democrats have an incentive to provide returns on their donors' investments.

Their donors will just start donating more to Republicans and less to Democrats. It's not like donors have party loyalty.
